Altus is seeking a skilled Electrical or Optical Engineer with expertise in long-haul fiber optic systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, operation, testing, analysis and repair of advanced fiber optic systems. Strong communication skills are essential for collaborating with cross-functional teams and conveying technical concepts effectively. This position is for a client in the Springfield VA area.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Key Responsibilities:
Review the design and implementation of long-haul communication systems
Review and analyze testing and troubleshooting data for communication networks
Collaborate with project managers and other engineers to define project requirements and deliverables, particularly in terms of optical performance.
Develop and maintain documentation, including system specifications, testing procedures, and manuals related to both optical and electrical subsystems.
Communicate technical information clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to diverse (i.e. non-technical) audiences.
Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in OTN (Optical Transport Network) and STM (Synchronous Transport Module) standards, as well as electrical signal processing techniques.
Provide technical training on all aspects of communication systems with emphasis on the following OSI layers:
Physical Layer
Data Link Layer
Network Layer
Transport Layer
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
TS/SCI with CI poly, preferably a full scope poly
7 to 10 years of experience with long-haul fiber optic systems, including design, analysis, testing, and maintenance.
Strong understanding of OTN and STM technologies
Strong understanding of signal processing.
Proficiency in using testing equipment and software relevant to fiber optic and electrical systems.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a relevant field.
Experience with network planning and optimization.
Familiarity with regulatory and compliance standards related to fiber optic systems.
