Work you'll do

The Hazard Mitigation Grant Specialist will collaborate with team members and Case Managers to assist in creating applications that align with the Swift Current program's needs. This role includes learning about program placements for applications like HMGP or Swift Current and how to input data accurately into systems. Key responsibilities include assisting in the creation of applications that meet the Swift Current program's requirements, learning and accurately inputting data into systems, helping combine smaller applications into larger ones for approval, playing a role in developing and submitting residential mitigation applications for eligible applicants, and coordinating with different departments to ensure successful communication with programmatic, technical, and environmental reviewers. Additionally, the associate will gain a solid understanding of the Swift Current program, support efforts to use Swift Current funding to effectively reduce flood risks, and work within program guidelines to help maximize the impact of funding.

Together we create more resilient communities and responsive ecosystems through incident action planning, grant risk assessments, improving grant processes and operations, future and contingency planning, and data analytics.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required clearance for this role.
  • Must be local to the Tallahassee, FL area and able to come on sit in Tallahassee, FL.
  • 2+ years of professional experience.
  • 1+ year of experience in the following:
    • Hazard Mitigation Planning
    • Managing disaster grants such FEMA's Public Assistance Grant Program, FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, or HUD's Community Development Block Grant for Disaster Recovery.
    • Grants management experience at the state, local and/or federal level supporting disaster recovery programs.

Preferred:
  • 1+ year of emergency management experience.
  • 1+ year of experience with FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Grant Program or Flood Mitigation Assistance Swift Current program.
