Duties

The United States Space Force (USSF) at Peterson Space Force Base is searching for a Narrowband SATCOM Engineer for Delta 8 (NH-0855-03, GS-12/13 equivalent).

Description:
Come work for the US Space Force, Space Operations Command Delta 8. This position is with the Narrowband Consolidated SATCOM System Expert Engineering Branch which is responsible for Global Narrowband SATCOM Payload management, enterprise operations management and situational awareness. The incumbent is responsible for guiding the successful integration of Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) communications technology and concepts into the global Narrowband architecture by proactively coordinating with satellite and terminal acquisition program offices, key technical and operational organizations (e.g., USSPACECOM, Warfighting users, COCOMS), and Narrowband branch counterparts. The incumbent will lead and participate in various forums to identify, resolve, and coordinate engineering issues impacting UHF and Mobile User Objective System managment, terminal development, plans, procedures, system configurations and operations.

The incumbent provides terminal certification recommendations, technical assessments, reports and mitigations for anomalies and planned outages. Supports select MUOS satellite and terminal test events and transition activities. Analyzes and produces situational awareness information, system usage and performance data to optimize system configurations, and support policy and procedures for operations management and warfighting users.

Ideal Candidate:
Experience in satellite communications or related area of expertise. Knowledge of DoD policies, processes, task management and C2 relationships is highly desirable.

Education: Mandatory bachelor's degree or higher degree in engineering (preferably Electrical Engineering) from a school of engineering accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

The ideal candidate will possess experience with independent judgement in determining the nature, scope, and priority of work efforts to accomplish assigned missions and functions, and ability to make authoritative technical decisions or resolve most problems that may arise. Additionally, the ability to keep supervisor informed of progress and address potentially controversial issues, especially those with major program and/or operational impact is desired. The ideal candidate will have a firm understanding of the command and control structure supporting Narrowband Satellite Communications which includes USSPACECOM, USSF, and Navy roles in Narrowband and associated policies applicable to Narrowband SATCOM operations. The candidate should also have a firm grasp on technologies associated with Narrowband SATCOM.

Key attributes of candidate include a strong engineering background with SATCOM systems, Radio Frequency experience, test planning and execution, experience with MIL-STDs, and experience with data analysis of system performance and usage.

Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Expert knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the variety of professional, technical, and specialty fields based on professional training in electronics engineering and extensive experience in research and development.
2. Expert technical knowledge of advanced concepts, principles, and practices of electronics engineering that enables the incumbent to serve as an expert in satellite Radio Frequency (RF) and in the test and evaluation and research and development of evaluation programs for emerging constellations.
3. Experience in testing and evaluation in electronics engineering to make recommendations which result in significant changes to important areas of the test and evaluation programs.
4. Skill in applying advanced electronic engineering concepts, so as to be able to serve as an expert to resolve difficult/novel engineering problems and issues, and plan, design, monitor and evaluate complex engineering programs and projects.
5. Ability to ensure the latest and most desirable developments in RF electronics and related engineering fields, technology, and threats are applied to support testing and training.
6. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
7. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and determine resource requirements; determine goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinate with other organizations; monitor progress, and evaluate outcomes.
8. Ability to identify problems and use sound judgment and decisions to generate and evaluate alternatives and make recommendations.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret / SCI clearance.
  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
  • This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.
  • PCS funding is authorized.
  • Position is not eligible for telework.
  • Position will close in 5 business days or 75 applications (whichever comes first).
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 65 days per year.
  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
