Roles & Responsibilities:

This is an opportunity for a Senior/Lead Software Engineer who not only excels in software engineering, including requirements gathering, design, software development, and testing, but also possesses innovation and leadership skills. In this position, you will play a critical role in driving technical innovation, leading cross-functional teams, and working with stakeholders to identify and pursue new opportunities for impact. Our Software Engineers encompass specialized disciplines dedicated to the design, development, integration, and maintenance of cutting-edge software systems. You will apply technical knowledge and system-level thinking to create robust, secure, and high-performance software solutions, and leverage technological advancements.

While responding to thesechallenges,youwillleverage and growyourhands-on skills with software design and development, engaging in the full software engineering lifecycle using modern technologies.

Youwillenhance or gain experience with one or more of the following:

• Cloud Engineering
• DevSecOps
• Full-Stack Development
• Embedded Systems and Internet of Things
• Practical Applications of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence

Additionally, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including domain experts, business development, and IR&D to identify and pursue new opportunities.

Basic Qualifications:

• Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
• Must be a US citizen able to obtain and maintain a US Top Secret government clearance.
• Analyzes users' needs; designs, develops, and tests software to meet user needs and non-functional requirements, such as security and performance needs.
• Develops software applications, user interfaces, databases, and embedded software.
• Recommends software upgrades and migration strategies for customers' existing programs and systems.
• Designs each piece of an application or system and plans how the pieces will work together.
• Creates a variety of models and diagrams, like flowcharts, to inform software development.
• Ensures that a program continues to function normally through software maintenance and testing.
• Documents every aspect of an application or system as a reference for future maintenance and upgrades.
• Works across sponsor domains and collaborates as part of an interdisciplinary team to create solutions and implementation strategies to improve quality and accelerate delivery of software systems to the field, including prototyping, research, software process modeling and simulation, technical design, and requirements.
• Learns new tools, techniques, and practices to stay abreast of the ever-evolving technical landscape.
• Demand for software engineering stems from greater emphasis on cloud computing, the collection and storage of big data, and information security.
• Hands-on skills and fundamental foundation in at least one object-oriented, procedural, functional, or declarative programming language (e.g., Java, JavaScript, C/C++/C#, Python, Linux, Bash).
• Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies.
• Desire to help their nation solve its most critical challenges.
• Documented competency using software development tools and frameworks, including source control management tools (e.g., Git).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• This is an on-site position requiring 4 days a week in the office, with the possibility of hybrid based on project needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Preference is given to candidates who have completed an advanced degree in a technical discipline (including but not limited to Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, etc.).
• Preference is given to qualified candidates with active clearance.
• Proficiency with DevSecOps principles and practices.
• Exposure to Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Delivery (CD), Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), and/or Automation for Security and Testing.
• Familiarity with Cloud Services Providers (AWS, Azure, Google, etc.).
• Knowledge of software design patterns.
• Knowledge of Generative Pretrained and Large Language Models (LLMs) and use in the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).

Salary compensation range and midpoint:
$127,500 - $159,500 - $191,500 Annual
