Purpose and Scope:
Provide technical services required to maintain, operate, and support unclassified and classified and standalone/closed communication systems. Maintain and repair radio-related electronics such as radios, communications switches, Land Mobile Radios, towers, repeaters and antennas. This position is in support of the Air Force Contract Augmentation Program (AFCAP) and is located at Ascension Island Auxiliary Airfield (AAAF).

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Perform installation and adjustments of communication systems, including high frequency (HF) systems.
  • Inspect radio communications activities, troubleshoot issues, and determine equipment operational status within the LMR Network.
  • Test, align, and adjust equipment; replace and repair faulty components, and requisition materials as needed.
  • Maintain equipment maintenance records, authorized spare parts, supply stock, tool lists, and technical manuals; Establish maintenance requirements for support equipment, tools and spare parts needed to support repair effort.
  • Provide technical guidance to subordinate personnel.
  • Perform comparison checks on repaired equipment in accordance with test standards.
  • Consult layout drawings to ensure equipment is properly positioned.
  • Operate and maintain (O&M) at the Organizational Level the High Frequency (HF) Global Communications System (HFGCS) scope command and antennas at AAAF IAW technical orders, commercial manuals, and manufacturer bulletins.
  • Perform assessments, surveys, engineering support, installations, replacements (scheduled and unscheduled), troubleshooting, ticket escalation, outage resolution, maintain, operate and support of all the virtual and physical hardware and software network devices and physical infrastructure.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and restore service to include fiber optics, coaxial and copper (twisted pair) broadband and baseband Ethernet, wireless technology & LANs and leased data circuits for wide area networking and telecommunications including VoIP and videoconferencing.


Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Candidate must possess at least 5 years of experience operating, maintaining, installing, programming, troubleshooting, and repairing radio systems such as but not limited to P25 repeaters, fixed, vehicle mounted & portable radios.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience and expertise related to security and risk management for communication and IT resources.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and/or Information Technology may be substituted for three (3) of the years of experience.
  • An associate degree in Computer Science and/or Information Technology may be substituted for two (2) of the years of experience.
  • Radio communications operation, repair and/or repair experience in military specialty field will also be considered.
  • Must have an Active Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • Candidate must possess and maintain a US Secret security clearance.
  • Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment.
  • The candidate must be able to operate standard LMR testing, repair and diagnostic equipment such as RF signal generators, RF antenna testers RF watt meters, Digital multi-meters, Communications System Analyzers, soldering stations and irons, basic hand tools, encryption key-loaders, battery maintenance systems, climbing safety equipment use/inspection and redundant solar and wind generators.
  • Prefer candidate with Blazer experience.
  • Candidate must a USN to fill the position.
  • Proficient in Microsoft computer operating systems and Microsoft Office software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License and passport.
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment.
  • Prior overseas government contracting experience preferred.


Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements dictated by project requirements.
  • Ability to work in harsh working conditions, outdoors, and/or in extreme temperatures.
  • Must be available to work outside the normal schedule if the need arises.
  • Must be able to repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds and carry heavy objects routinely.
  • Ability to climb, crawl, crouch, bend, stand for long periods, reach above shoulder level, extend arms at awkward angles, lift, and carry objects.
  • Must be able to be alert for shifts of at least eight (8) hours.
  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
