Overview
FTI's Data, Cyber and Integrated Services (DCIS) group is looking for an Image Science Lead to work out of our Beverly, MA office supporting multiple classified projects. The Data Science group within DCIS is made up for three team leads - this Image Science Lead and two other Data Science Leads - who are guiding FTI Data Science to cutting edge technologies in AI, ML, and automated and complex data and image processing.
The majority of your time will be contributing technically to image science projects, as a technical lead or as a contributor, depending on the project. This role will also lead a team of highly skilled Image Data Scientists. Our team is made up of mostly PhDs in astronomy and physics, so a strong academic background in those areas is required.
Another aspect of this role is part time as a technical manager. A project / engineering manager is the technical leader and liaison - responsible for providing technical and programmatic support to FTI leadership, communicating and distilling corporate strategy back to the Image Science team, and providing strategic vision for the Image Science team.
You will also be supporting business development, providing demonstrations of our capability and software to potential customers, and working with others in DCIS to identify potential opportunities for growth and greater value on existing projects. The expectation is ~80% time on technical contributions and team lead and 20% time on project engineering and growth activities.

Responsibilities
- Responsible for managing a team of Imaging Data Scientists in end-to-end lifecycle of data science projects, from planning to deployment.
- Responsible to oversee the collection, cleaning, and preprocessing of data, ensuring the accuracy and validity of data and models through rigorous testing and validation.
- Responsible for ensuring you and your team develop and refine predictive models, algorithms, and analytical methods, while staying updated with the latest trends and technologies in data science and analytics.
- Responsible for ensuring you and your team are identifying new tools, techniques, and methodologies to enhance data analysis capabilities will be a key part of your role.
- Responsible for helping your team work closely with other departments to identify and prioritize data-driven opportunities, translating complex data findings into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
- Responsible for presenting data insights and recommendations to senior management and other key stakeholders will be a regular activity, requiring excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Responsible for ensuring you and your team uses best practices in data science, including coding standards, version control, and documentation, while troubleshooting and resolving any technical issues that arise during data projects.
Project / engineering managemenet responsibilities such as:
- Responsible for ensuring collaboration on program management with the internal customer, DCIS, and Operations to ensure a partnership that allows for transparency and teamwork.
- Responsible for understanding all of our FTI technology offerings, in partnership with FTI Operations and DCIS, to identify potential opportunities that could result in increasing external customer intimacy.
- Supporting technical business development activity, such as providing demos on capability and software, identifying and contributing to image science proposals, and working with DCIS leadership to craft the image science strategic vision and how that fits into FTI's larger data science strategic vision.
Education/Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and currently have a TS clearance that will require an SCI upgrade. Current TS/SCI is preferred.
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Astronomy, Physics, or a related technical field. Prefer PhD.
- 2-4 years in image science or a related field with 1-2 years in a technical leadership or managerial role.
- Experience in technical management of contracts and subcontracts of various types and complexity. Will be providing technical and programmatic status to FTI leadership.
- Proficiency in Unix, Python, R, Matlab, SQL, and other relevant programming languages.
- Proficiency in STK orbit determination software (optional)
- Experience presenting technical results to people of a range of technical background.
- Strong knowledge of image processing, statistical methods, data modeling, and machine learning algorithms.
- Strategic thinking and the ability to develop and implement data strategies aligned with business goals.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
- Understanding of customer needs and the ability to translate them into data-driven solutions.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and manage relationships with external partners.
- Willingness to occasionally travel domestically for business.
