The Mechanical Engineer will provide critical engineering and construction quality assurance, management, and technical oversight for the Gaborone LFO Project. This role supports the completion of the project in alignment with contract requirements, U.S. standards, and applicable codes.


Responsibilities
• Perform technical inspections of mechanical work to ensure compliance with design documents.
• Monitor the contractor’s quality control and safety programs and address non-compliance issues.
• Review project drawings, specifications, and engineering shop drawings to verify compliance with design parameters.
• Conduct quality assurance tasks, including material inspections and contractor submittal reviews, resolving conflicts as needed.
• Oversee ongoing construction work, identifying problems or deviations from design or contract specifications.
• Prepare weekly progress reports summarizing project status and technical reviews.
• Assess Requests for Information (RFIs) and evaluate proposed submittal substitutions for engineering implications.
• Coordinate the development of Independent Government Estimates (IGEs) for modifications and change orders.
• Monitor construction progress in relation to the project schedule and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
• Prepare construction reports detailing progress, identifying issues, and evaluating contractor remedies.
• Review and evaluate design documents, calculations, and data from an engineering perspective.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integration and coordination of all project elements.
• Ensure compliance with International Codes, Construction Safety regulations (e.g., EM 385-1-1, OSHA), and U.S. standards.
• Provide expertise on systems such as Building Automation Systems, HVAC, power generation, plumbing, and water/sewage treatment.
• Maintain current working knowledge of acceptable products, procedures, and construction practices.

General Requirements
• A Mechanical Engineering degree from an accredited U.S. university,
• A minimum of seven (7) years of experience on similar construction projects.
o Design office experience is not counted toward this requirement.
o A Professional Engineering (PE) license may substitute for a degree.
• Professional Engineering registration is preferred.
• Overseas construction experience is preferred.
• Must possess a Final Secret, Interim Top Secret (ITS), or Final Top Secret (TS) clearance issued by DCSA at the time of proposal.
o Ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance is required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
