Aegis Aerospace is currently looking for a Human Performance Scientist Lab Technical Lead to join our team in Houston, TX.
Overview:
The primary function of this position is to provide technical leadership to the Exercise Physiology and Countermeasures team at NASA's Johnson Space Center. The Exercise Physiology and Countermeasures Lab (EPC) leads efforts to transition research to operations and optimize human health and performance for exploration missions through exercise. The EPC team provides subject matter expertise to a variety of tasks including: medical testing, validation of exercise countermeasures hardware and protocols, analog environments, development of conditioning programs for crew health and performance, and technology development to enhance the analysis of human performance. Tasks for this position will include: technical guidance and leadership on study design, data collection, data reduction and analysis, allocation of workload across the contractor team (~14 scientists/SMEs), working with the NASA Technical Monitor and contract manager to develop and communicate lab priorities, and preparation of technical reports and presentations.

- Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the Company's safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management
- Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies and procedures
- Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by the company
- Responsible for completing all assigned training
- Ensure compliance with HHPC and KBR standard policies and procedures
- Communicate lab priorities to lab personnel and direct day-to-day activities and equitably distribute project and task workloads.
- Work with Functional Manager and Technical Monitors (TMs) to establish lab priorities.
- Direct interface to NASA TMs
- Report laboratory activities to Functional Manager and TMs as appropriate
- Work with Functional Manager to identify skillset requirements and available resources required to complete tasks.
- Mentor lab personnel and equitably distribute personal growth opportunities
- Contribute to evaluation of personnel performance reviews
- Work to build team cohesion
- Resolve, or facilitate resolution of, scheduling and task assignment conflicts
- Understand and communicate cost, schedule, and performance at lab level
- Lead preparation of support documentation for studies, including Institutional Review Board protocols, test plans, test readiness review packages, etc.
- Perform equipment set-up, calibration, and monitoring for tests/evaluations
- Carry out experiments with human test subjects
- Assist with reduction and analysis of test data, including appropriate statistical methods
- Prepare technical reports, manuscripts, and presentations
- Develop grant proposals to perform relevant research and assist with preparation of budget estimates
- Present technical results at internal meetings and scientific conferences
- Archive data per NASA policy
- Provide inputs to weekly and monthly status reports
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic and commitment to the customer and team
- Serve as a test subject for protocol and hardware evaluations on a volunteer basis
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required:
- Must be a US Citizen or US Lawful Permanent Resident
- This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in human physiology, plus 10 years' experience; a Master's Degree plus 8 years' experience; or a PhD plus 6 years' experience in a relevant field
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member; employee will be required to work and communicate with human test subjects, astronauts, and personnel across multiple JSC directorates
- Highly motivated with developed organizational skills and ability to support multiple projects
- Attention to detail
- Understanding of human performance capabilities and interactions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both formal and informal
- Standard PC and Microsoft Office skills for preparation of documents and presentations
DESIRED:
- PhD plus 6 years' experience in a relevant field
- Experience with NASA mission operations, hardware, and protocols relevant to exercise
- Experience preparing NASA documentation
- Experience with NASA Human Health and Performance Directorate
- Knowledge of human spaceflight, especially exercise countermeasures systems and operational implementation
- Experience in integration or human systems integration
- Knowledge of spaceflight analogs and research development
- Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., NASA-STD-3001) and NASA human space flight Programs
