Metrology Technician - LASER

JOB DESCRIPTION :
This technician is responsible for providing calibration and repair services on Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation (LASER) Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) under close supervision and following detailed instructions. Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturer's manuals or similar documents. Requires the ability to use complex test instruments, such as direct energy sources, data collection systems, optical setups, and control equipment. Assists senior technicians with providing calibration and minor repair services on designated equipment.

REQUIREMENTS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION :

• A technical/physicassociate's degree or higher, related equivalent experience will be considered.
  
• Excellent working knowledge of calibration and maintenance of testing equipment. Military metrology is a plus, with knowledge of USAF CTO 00-20-14.
  
• Possesses the knowledge required to read and understand schematic and wiring drawings.
  
• Setup and Operation of LASER and photometric measurements is a plus.
  
• Familiar with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025.
  
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  
• Must be able to qualify for or have successfully completed a National Agency Check Investigation within the last ten (10) years.
  
• Above average proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word), Windows based operating systems, and general internet navigation and usage required.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :
Essential/Typical Duties :

• Will assist with maintaining the primary and secondary standards of measurements for assigned measurement areas.
• May assist with the calibration and measurement of precision measurement equipment.
• May assist with determining the suitability of items received for calibration and makes recommendations for repair or replacement of unsuitable items.
• May assist with performing minor repair and replacement of damaged components, where possible.
• May assist with assuring that facility, equipment, environment, records, and procedures are adequate for the work requirements.
• May assist in evaluating equipment performance against standards.
• May assist with unusual technical problems associated with work received and in determining methods and techniques to be used to solve the problems.
• May assist with the development of draft calibration procedures utilizing advanced techniques, methods, and approaches necessary to assure required confidence levels.
• May assist with assuring the accuracy of laboratory measurements.
• May assist with maintaining and calibrating measurement standards and test measurement and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).
• Will assist with maintaining the primary and secondary standards of measurements for assigned measurement areas.
• Safely use Direct Energy Sources IAW Federal guidelines.
