MITRE's Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Program Division seeks a highly skilled technical candidate to provide strategic guidance and expertise in Command and Control (C2) systems engineering in support to the MDA Command and Control Battle Management and Communications (C2BMC) program office.
The C2BMC Technical Advisor (TA) serves as a technical expert who supports the MDA/BC Program government senior leadership team and provides technical strategy guidance across the MDA/BC organization. The TA is a senior technical advisor on MDA/BC major milestone reviews and test reviews and leads the preparation for these reviews at the Program Director's discretion. The TA may lead MDA/BC and MDA cross-functional working groups to address special topics. The TA also represents MDA/BC leadership at MDA Boards and meetings, when requested by the MDA/BC Program Director.
The job is a Senior Principal Step, Huntsville, AL-based position with a primary work location on-site with the MDA sponsor, which is required to effectively foster key relationships and shape the direct work program.

Roles & Responsibilities:
- Apply expert level of experience and industry knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures as related to Command, Control, Battle Management, and Communications capabilities to the Missile Defense System and the agencies, services, and combatant commands with which it interfaces and operates.
- Maintain close contact with the MDA/BC Program Director, as appropriate, to identify critical technical challenges and keep the Government aware of emerging technical issues and program risks.
- Advise Government and MITRE senior leadership on critical and emerging C2 technology threats and vulnerabilities, providing actionable insights and recommendations.
- Collaborate and shape the development of MITRE MDA Program Division and DoD & Services (D&S) Center Strategies
- Coordinate, establish, lead, and influence the appropriate cross-functional teams from the government, prime contractors, academia, laboratories, and field activities to perform engineering as needed to address critical program issues.
- Generate and deliver briefs, white papers, and other correspondence to support the Government program office.
- Work collaboratively with other MDA technical leaders across the agency to coordinate C2BMC technical capability, architecture, and interoperability updates and integration with MDA weapons systems and sensors to deliver enhanced Warfighter capabilities.
- Positively impact sponsor long term operational, program, and/or service outcomes to address emergent needs and actions.
- Create complex innovative technical perspectives on existing knowledge and share that knowledge with others, providing training, mentorship, and fostering a culture of continuous awareness and improvement.
- Work within a government integrated product team environment partnering technical outcomes across multiple stakeholders and organizations, communicating complex ideas, anticipating potential objections and roadblocks, and influencing others to adopt new points of view on broader organizational programs.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree in systems engineering, or similar technical degree; or 10 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 7 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- This position requires active Top Secret/SCI clearance.
- 8+ years of experience in applying expert experience level to developing and evolving complex defense systems or command, control, battle manager capabilities through the practical application of physics-based engineering, technical assessment, and/or systems engineering best practices and at least 3 years of leadership/advisory role.
- Experience in Missile Defense Agency systems and programs.
- Demonstrated ability to independently bring new, innovative solutions to sponsor challenges, strategically advocate for new approaches, and work within a dynamic team with loosely defined objectives.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- This position requires an on-site presence of 5 days a week on-site.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in technical leadership, strategy development, and risk/issue resolution to complex technical challenges.
- Experience in the MDA/C2BMC Program.
- Master's degree in engineering or similar field and with at least 10 years of experience; or PhD with at least 7 years of experience.
- Technical expertise in a relevant sensor tracking or C2 architecture.
- Proven record to work both as a team player and independently with loosely defined objectives.
- Recognized as a thought leader and who dynamically and proactively executes leadership.
