Job Description:
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead transition strategy for a government-funded research program. This role will focus on aligning research initiatives with industry standards and commercial applications, facilitating the transition of research outcomes to multiple government customers and commercial entities. The Staff Software Engineer will also be responsible for technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and driving architectural decisions.

Pay Range: $150,000 - $175,000 per year

Job Description:
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead transition strategy for a government-funded research program. The Staff Software Engineer will also be responsible for technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and driving architectural decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement technical strategies that align program objectives with industry trends and commercial potential
- Analyze market data and government requirements to ensure research relevance and successful application
- Create roadmaps for transitioning program outcomes to government and commercial partners
- Contribute to proposal development, emphasizing broader applicability of research
- Lead and mentor software engineering teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence
- Design and implement scalable, maintainable software architectures
- Drive technical decision-making and establish best practices for software development
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex technical challenges
- Conduct code reviews and ensure high code quality standards are maintained
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on technical strategy or research commercialization
- Understanding of government contracting processes and research program structures
- Expertise in relevant industry standards and emerging technologies
- Experience with the technology and processes to lead software development
- Excellent communication skills, adept at translating complex technical concepts for diverse audiences
- Experience in technology transfer, commercialization, or product development
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Knowledge of intellectual property considerations and government technology transfer processes
- Proven track record of leading large-scale software projects and mentoring junior engineers
- Deep expertise in multiple programming languages and software development methodologies
- Experience with cloud technologies, distributed systems, and microservices architecture
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to tackle complex technical challenges
