About the Role: We are looking for a Senior Hardware Design Engineer to join our Embedded Electronics Design team.
Ideal Candidate:
- Works well in cross-functional teams.
- Has recent experience designing complex systems using state-of-the-art commercial off-the-shelf FPGAs, processors, or systems on a chip (SOCs).
- Able to start immediately on complex circuit PCB designs with minimal supervision.
- Leading and executing complex circuit design projects within the Electronics Division by applying sound engineering principles.
Core Responsibilities:
- System architecture design and detailed documentation.
- Detailed electrical analysis, design, and schematic capture.
- Manage PCB layout design resources (work with ECAD resources, not expected to perform the layout yourself).
- Prototype bring-up and debugging.
- Functional verification.
- Performance characterization.
Qualifications:
- BSEE required, MSEE preferred.
- 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong fundamentals in electrical engineering.
- Excellent analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Experience designing PCBs that integrate state-of-the-art processors, FPGAs, and SOCs (e.g., Xilinx Virtex/Zynq/Ultrascale, Microsemi Smartfusion/PolarFire, Intel Stratix 10).
- Experience with small embedded digital/analog systems, especially low power embedded processors (ARM, DSP, MCU, etc.) is desirable.
- Experience in power distribution network design and verification using tools like Ansys SIwave.
- Experience with high-speed communication and/or memory interfaces (e.g., PCIe, Ethernet, DDR3/4, Multi-gigabit Transceivers).
- Ability to develop layout guidelines and verify design and signal integrity using tools like Hyperlinx before fabrication.
- Experience in system integration, processor selection, analog integration, sensor design and integration, data acquisition, sampling and control theory, digital signal processing, low power design, signal integrity, and power integrity.
- Knowledge of system grounding/shielding and EMI mitigation techniques for complex sensor/actuator systems.
- Basic understanding of programming languages such as C and VHDL to understand the functionality and operation of FPGAs, SOCs, or processors used in the design.
