This Principal Database Engineer position will be located on-site in Fairfax, VA, and may require some on-site support at the Pentagon. The Army PPB BOS program is seeking a data warehouse engineer who will make significant and ongoing contributions to the maturation of our data-driven processes.

The ideal candidate possesses both the analytical aptitude and problem-solving skillset necessary for extracting value from a collection of novel data sets. Additionally, the candidate should possess working experience with latest data warehousing trends/toolsets and implementation methods. Other responsibilities may include data modeling, query tuning, performance tuning, troubleshooting, database development and testing.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Work alongside a team of DB developers and other members of the program.
  • Determine user needs, analyze system capabilities to achieve desired results and ensure software standards are met.
  • Designs, develops, builds, analyzes, evaluates and installs database management systems to include database modeling and design, relational database architecture, metadata and repository creation and configuration management.
  • Uses data mapping, data mining and data transformational analysis tools to design and develop databases.
  • Determines data storage and optimum storage requirements.
  • Prepares system requirements, source analysis and process analyses and design throughout the database implementation.
  • Self-starter, team-player and work under general supervision.
  • Complete the tasks in a fast-paced results driven environment.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline with 5 years of experience OR Master's degree with 3 years of experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience developing data warehouse process models, including sourcing, loading, transforming and extracting data sets
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience with design and implementation of data warehousing technologies including relational and nonrelational databases, SQL, and data analytics
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience supporting Oracle database management systems running on Windows or Linux
  • Oracle development and administration
  • Experience in full lifecycle project development
  • US citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Understanding and working knowledge of industry standards and techniques for enterprise database systems and data warehousing
  • Certified Oracle Database Administrator
  • Knowledge of Amazon Web Service (AWS)
  • Knowledge of Hierarchical Data Structures
  • Experience working with PostgreSQL and Redshift
  • Proficiency with technologies like Apache, Hadoop, Spark, and Kafka
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Matplotlib, and Seaborn
  • Experience with JIRA, Jenkins, or Git
  • Experience working in an agile or iterative development environment
  • An interest in data science areas such as data visualization, big data, machine learning, data analysis and data wrangling
Salary Range: $110,300 - $165,500
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
