Description
SAIC has an opening for a Research Scientist. This is a remote position that can be worked from any location in the U.S.
Contribute to the NRL METOC R&D program by creating software to support the development of Navy Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) and Aerosol models to support Navy and Marine Corps operational planning and mission execution around the world.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and two (2) years or more related experience. MS in Meteorology or related Physical Sciences field.

Target salary range: $40,001 - $80,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.

Tasks include:
- Processing and monitoring satellite data within the GeoIPS system.
- Monitor TCWeb Page to ensure the page is functioning properly and imagery is active and without delay. Investigate and repair any issues and inform PI of the progress.
- Write scripts used to automate the monitoring process for all GeoIPS data feeds and cylc suites. Monitoring status of all GeoIPS products until the automation processes are complete.
- Fix any issues with the GeoIPS script suites and data feeds.
- Provide GeoIPS imagery to operational partners (National Hurricane Center and the Joint Typhoon Warning Center) to ensure our operational partners always have the most up to date data.
- PyroCb satellite detection algorithms and ASIA-AQ field campaign data analysis.
- Monitor and create case studies for the 2024 fire season to begin preparation for the INSPYRE field campaign.
- Analyze and improve the original PyroCb detection algorithm and create case studies improve the algorithm.
- Create plots from the ASIA-AQ field campaign data to analyze in comparison to the forecasted weather.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and two (2) years or more related experience. MS in Meteorology or related Physical Sciences field.
1-2 years of experience with:
- Meteorological Data Processing and Monitoring.
- Supporting Navy METOC R&D programs in Tropical Cyclones, International Field Campaigns, and "fire weather"
- Experience with Python, Numpy, Matplotlib, Linux/Unix programming.
DESIRED:
- 1-2 years of providing meteorological forecasts to air crews and research scientists.
CLEARANCE:
- Active Secret security clearance
- U.S. citizenship required
