Who Are We Looking For?
The Emerging Technology Analysis Group (ETAG) at ORNL seeks applicants for our Emerging and Disruptive Technology Analyst position. We are looking for candidates with experience in analytic writing and intelligence analysis, with a particular emphasis on emerging and disruptive technologies (EDT). Our group is in ORNL's Field Intelligence Operations Division (FIOD) within the National Security Sciences Directorate (NSSD).
Reporting to the group leader for ETAG, this position analyzes unclassified and classified information, produces written products, and presents results to audiences with disparate backgrounds. The successful candidate will share knowledge about emerging technologies in our areas of interest as well as propose new areas to pursue. They will also have a broad curiosity about mission-focused science and technology analysis emphasizing US economic and national security.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth analyses of complex national, regional, and global emerging technology issues that impact senior policymakers and key partners across the Intelligence Community (IC), and the US DOE.
- Conduct intelligence analysis and research, assess threats, and produce analytic finished intelligence on complex national security threats related to EDT, including:
- Quantum information sciences,
- Artificial intelligence and machine learning,
- Biotechnology,
- High-performance computing,
- Semiconductors, and
- Advanced materials and manufacturing.
- Apply analytic tradecraft and communication skills to write clear and concise intelligence products and deliver briefings.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) from FIOD, NSSD, and other ORNL directorates/divisions in all technical areas of the program.
- Interact with SMEs, analytic colleagues, customers, and IC partners to facilitate timely, relevant, and accurate information exchange.
- Present both unclassified and classified briefings regarding analytical assessments, and tailor the content to the level of the audience.
- Abide by all environmental, safety, health and quality requirements and implement practices per ORNL's Standards-based Management System (SBMS).
- Maintain a strong commitment to implementing ORNL's and NSSD's values and ethics.
- Occasional domestic travel is required.

Basic Qualifications:
- B.A. or B.S. in economics, intelligence analysis, liberal arts or foreign language, political science, physics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, or another relevant field and four (4) years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience with Intelligence Community Directive (ICD) standards and procedures as well as structured analytic techniques.
- Experience with producing timely and relevant analytic intelligence products.
- Ability to apply appropriate methods to effectively plan, organize and coordinate research, analysis, and present information.
- Ability to work effectively in a team or collaborative environment that includes both ORNL as well as members of DOD and other elements of the IC.
Preferred Qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge of ICD standards and procedures, expertise in analytic tradecraft, exceptional communication skills, and a proven ability to produce high-quality intelligence products on time and within budget.
- Experience researching and analyzing complex threat networks, including counter-narcotics, transnational organized crime, threat finance, counterterrorism, counter proliferation, or great powers competition, is highly desirable.
- Ability (or willingness to learn) to distill complex and technical information into clear, actionable insights for senior leaders and collaborators.
- Active Q and/or TS//SCI clearance is a plus.
Special Requirements:
- Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- Q clearance with SCI:This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program. In addition, due the SCI, you may also be subject to random polygraph testing.
