JOB SUMMARY:
Inferno Systems is looking for candidates with the right blend of Linux systems administration experience with bash/python scripting skills for our Operational System Engineer position. You will be working alongside Computer Network Operators (CNOs) to help automate tasks, collection and other operational activities. You will help with task generation, data collection and parsing, file transfer, and task tracking. You will work closely with the CNOs on automation of currently manual tasks to speed the availability of data sets to end users and decision makers.
Candidates in this role will be working with CNOs to fulfill operational objectives, discuss conops and methodologies, and assist with developing new processes for data collection, ingestion and processing.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Understanding of Linux operating systems (e.g. Centos Stream, Rocky, Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, etc.) and the ability to research the latest technological developments in the relevant operating systems to identify impact and anticipate changes to the organization's operating environment.
• Familiarity with web proxies (iptables, mod_proxy, digital certificates, etc.), common web servers (i.e. Apache, NGINX), SSL certificates, and DNS records.
• Experience with network and systems troubleshooting
• Be able to work in a Windows environment with PuTTY and/or Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL)
• 4+ years experience programming in Python and/or Bash.
• Experience with both Linux and Windows.
• Experience working in virtualized environments such as VMWare ESXi.
• Understanding of data flows, ETL general data processing.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills to interface with a variety of customers and independently design and develop tools to meet requirements.
• Solid understanding of Linux logging, network traffic analysis, SPLUNK, network traffic redirection (i.e. iptables).
• Experience monitoring network activity and network traffic redirection.
• Experience in the design, implementation, procurement, tradecraft, or maintenance of various layers of network infrastructure.
• Candidates must be organized, detail-oriented, a team player, and willing/eager to learn.
DESIRED SKILLS:
• Software development experience in C, C++, Java or other languages.
• Optimizing support for ongoing, rapidly changing operational activities/needs by applying technical knowledge/expertise to ensure that technical documentation is properly created and maintained, at the system and strategic level.
• Experience in Agile software methodologies or equivalent.
• Ability to research, analyze, prioritize, problem solve, and work several tasks concurrently with minimal supervision.
