Mechanical Technologist

AIS is seeking an R&D Mechanical Technologist to join our team. The successful candidate will weld metal components together to fabricate or repair products, such as machine parts, plant equipment, mobile homes, motors and generators, according to layouts, blueprints or work orders, using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment. The successful candidate will weld metal parts together, using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes, performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding, repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes and increases size of metal parts, positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding. The successful candidate may locate and repair cracks in industrial engine cylinder heads, using inspection equipment and gas torch, may perform repairs only and be required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards of governmental agencies or professional and technical associations. Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical fabrication (i.e., welding, cutting, machining).
• Operate heavy equipment (i.e., forklift, boom lift, skid-steer).

Qualifications

• Ability to obtain and retain DOE Q-level security clearance.
• 5 years' experience in welding (e.g., arc, mig).
• Experience with operating heavy equipment (e.g., forklift, skid steer).

Desired Qualifications:

• Associates degree in welding or certificate.

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to lift more than 35 lbs with or without assistance.
• If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sub-contractor you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
• If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sub-contractor, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
