JHNA is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) in System and Software Engineering to support Army Program Executive Office (PEO) Aviation (AVN) at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville AL. The SME will provide technical expertise in the development, integration, and sustainment of complex aviation systems, ensuring compliance with military standards and leveraging the latest advancements in Digital Engineering, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This role has a hybrid work schedule which requires on-site support three days a week.

- Serve as a technical advisor for system and software engineering, ensuring alignment with Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) tenants using consensus open standards such as the Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE™) Standard, Sensor Open System Architecture (SOSA) Standard, and other military aviation standards.
- Provide expertise to the application of Digital Engineering principles, including MBSE practices, to enhance system design, development, and lifecycle management.
- Develop and review enterprise weapon system architecture products using DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF), Unified Architecture Framework (UAF), and Systems Modeling Language (SysML).
- Evaluate Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions to improve operational efficiency, decision-making, and system automation.
- Conduct system and software analysis, verification, and validation in compliance with military and industry standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements, design interfaces, and oversee the integration of subsystems.
- Provide expertise in software development methodologies, tools, and technologies, including those relevant to FACE software portability and interoperability.
- Ensure adherence to security protocols and standards for aviation software systems.
- Prepare and deliver technical reports, briefings, and presentations to stakeholders at various levels.
- Mentor and guide team members in advanced system and software engineering practices.
Required Qualifications:
- Clearance: Candidate must be a U.S Citizen with an active DoD clearance.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in systems and software engineering, with a focus on military aviation systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in the FACE Standard, military aviation standards (e.g., MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-498, ARINC 653), and avionics integration.
- Proficiency in Digital Engineering and MBSE, including tools such as Cameo, Rhapsody, or Enterprise Architect.
- Strong understanding of DoDAF and UAF frameworks.
- Understanding of applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques within engineering workflows.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., C++, Python, Java) and software development frameworks.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles relevant to military systems.
- Familiarity with simulation, modeling, and system analysis tools.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Desired Qualifications:
- Certification in systems engineering or software engineering (e.g., INCOSE CSEP, CSSE).
- Experience with Agile or DevSecOps methodologies in a military context.
- Knowledge of cloud-based solutions and architectures.
- Experience with Future Vertical Lift (FVL) Architecture Framework (FAF)
- Experience with Technical Standard for Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA)
- Experience with C5ISR/EW Modular Open Suite of Standards (CMOSS)
- Experience with CMOSS Mounted Form Factor (CMFF)
