Cloud Engineer (AWS)

OVERVIEW
We are seeking a Cloud Engineer to assist with building a new secure cloud-based enclave and migrating from a legacy on-premises infrastructure to AWS. The role requires a highly motivated and experienced cloud professional with expertise in AWS services and security best practices. You will play a pivotal role in designing, deploying, maintaining, and enhancing the Client’s cloud environment to ensure seamless operations and compliance with security standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collaborate closely with the Client to prioritize tasks and ensure successful project execution.
• Set up, configure, update, and maintain a secure AWS-based cloud enclave in all environments.
• Lead the migration of mission data from legacy Windows-based systems to the AWS cloud environment.
• Provide technical solutions and documentation to meet system implementation and security needs.
• Perform cloud engineering tasks, including configuration management, knowledge transfer, and system security planning.
• Gather and refine system requirements and provide expertise on AWS cloud services and architecture.
• Participate in meetings with internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient cloud operations.
• Monitor and optimize cloud-related costs, providing cost-saving recommendations to the Client.
• Work with Security team to achieve the Ability to Operate for the cloud enclave.
• Support application deployments, patches, and configuration changes within the cloud environment.
• Implement backup and disaster recovery (DR) solutions based on Client requirements.
• Provide input on improving cloud strategies to enhance security, reduce costs, and streamline operations.
• Utilize Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and automation to reduce errors and ensure efficient cloud operations.
• Identify and address security, data integrity, or technical risks within the cloud environment.
• Perform ongoing Operations and Maintenance (O&M) tasks to ensure the cloud enclave remains secure and reliable.
• Execute tasks such as:
◦ Creating and configuring Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs)
◦ Setting up and managing EC2 and RDS instances
◦ Creating secure AMIs
◦ Configuring auto-scaling groups and load balancers
◦ Managing user access and security groups
◦ Integrating with external services
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• Proven experience with implementing AWS security best practices, including Identity Management, Secure Tokens, CloudWatch, and Cloud Monitoring.
• In-depth knowledge of AWS security constraints and accreditation processes for cloud enclaves.
• Experience configuring virtual machines and troubleshooting to resolve technical issues and meet security compliance.
• Hands-on experience in setting up and maintaining AWS Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs).
• Familiarity with managing Windows environments in AWS, including MS Product Suite, MS SQL, and MS Server.
• Experience with log aggregation tools like Splunk to maintain system integrity and security.
• Demonstrated experience maintaining system accreditation within the last six months.
