The Software Specialist is responsible for assisting in the development, operation and maintenance of software applications and system interfaces. The Software Specialist works with management, consultants, developers, and users to identify and prioritize software/system enhancements and defect resolution. The Software Specialist supports the computing needs of the Plant IT organization while adhering to software quality procedures and guidance.
The position will execute activities ensuring optimum outputs are achieved in the most economic and safe manner while supporting the integrity and infrastructure of the department
This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS
Primary duties consist of the development, operations and maintenance of database systems. Performs work under direct supervision. Typically, this person will be assigned to support production software and databases. Works with application administrators and other database administrators to resolve production software problems. Additional responsibilities include:
This position is currently a telework/remote position but could convert to on-site position with a 30-day notice, at that time selected candidate would be required to report to the jobsite.
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in computer science or information systems with 4 years of related work experience
OR
Associate's degree in computer science or information systems with 8 years of related work experience
OR
High School Diploma with 10 years of related work experience

Performs deskwork, including writing, computer workstation processes, and telephone operations. Arranges for and\or performs presentations, oral reports, planning meetings, and other formal or informal contacts, requiring long periods of sitting.
This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Must be able to work in the United States without Sponsorship
Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy (DOE) badge for access to the Hanford site.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $87,011.43 - $133,126.59 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

- Providing support for various SQL Server databases and associated SQL Server functions such as SQL Server Reporting Services, SQL Server Integration Services, etc.
- Designing and implementing complex software application programs according to project software standards and conventions.
- Troubleshooting and resolving complex issues related to system interfaces.
- Performing and overseeing commercial and developed software upgrades in accordance with software quality procedures.
- Assisting with the generation of metrics and/or reports.
- Regularly interfacing with internal application power users to identify emergent issues.
- Contacts information systems vendors representatives as needed for gathering information and product evaluation.
- Provides support to end user customers throughout the organization, as required.
- Develops specifications from business requirements in consultation with end users.
- Supporting Continuous Improvement efforts intended to improve the quality of existing software.
- Supporting the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work to protect self, others, and the environment.

- Experience with recent SQL Server database versions and features
- Experience with SQL Server Integration Services
- Experience with database monitoring tools
- Experience SQL Server Reporting Services
- Experience writing basic SQL queries, stored procedures and triggers
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Knowledge of SQL Server architecture, installation, configuration, maintenance and patching procedures
- Experience with Visual Studio
- Analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to communicate information clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to understand customer requirements and expectations
- Capable of designing software, database and reporting solutions to meet user needs
- Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and manage changing priorities
- Must be able to follow established quality assurance methods and procedures
- Excellent focus on customers, peers and key vendor relationships, to ensure expectations are met
- Ability to follow instructions and processes to plan and manage the orderly implementation of change
- It is preferred that the candidate also has software development experience
