Overview

Nakupuna Federal is looking to hire a Data Scientist to support the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)'s Transformation and Strategy Office (TSO). The project is focused on developing strategic performance measures and designing and implementing a performance dashboard. The ideal candidate will analyze, synthesize, and transform complex data, prepare big data, implement models, and develop databases to support the enterprise. A self-starter, capable of seamless work as an individual or in a team environment will be most successful in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare big data, implement data model(s), and develop database(s).
  • Interpret data from multiple sources using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex data mining. Identify business trends through complex data analysis.
  • Collect large structured and unstructured data sets and transform into insights and compelling visuals that inform decision making.
  • Partner with cross-functional team while receiving input from a non-technical client.
  • Assist teammates with dashboards that visualize the organization's Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and assess both operational and transformational performance.
  • Support team members with building MVP dashboards through Power BI or Tableau.
  • Support dashboard roll-out, testing, and integration into pre-existing government systems.


Qualifications

Skills/Qualifications:
  • 7+ years experience in data science, data analysis, and engineering. Demonstrated fluency in data mining and statistical analysis.
  • Strong background in and experience in Tableau and/or Power BI, SharePoint, Excel, SQL, and programming languages (e.g., Python).
  • Comfortable working with senior leaders and demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills are a must.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and as an individual contributor on several concurrent projects.
  • Strong experience compiling, organizing, and cleaning data for input into dashboards or business intelligence tools.

Education and Experience: This position requires a Bachelor's degree, Masters degree preferred, and a minimum of 7 years of professional experience. Relevant experience must be in one or more of the following: data mining, advanced analytical algorithms, programming, data science, advanced statistical analysis, computational science, software engineering, or data engineering.

Clearance Requirements: This position requires the ability to pass an IRS-mandated background check. Must be a U.S. citizen.

Work Location: Work is performed in a hybrid environment at the government site in Washington, D.C., and at the Nakupuna Office in Arlington, VA.

Physical Requirements: The ideal candidate must at a minimum be able to meet the following physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation :
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions with the hands, wrists, and fingers.
  • Ability to engage in and follow audible communications in emergency situations.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods at a desk and working on a computer.
