Network Development Engineer (SDN) - McLean, VA - (TS/SCI w/CI Poly)

*** TS/SCI w/CI Poly is required for this role***

As a Network Development Engineer you will perform high quality network and system operations, deployments, scaling, technology refresh, sustain engineering, best practices applications, optimization, internal/external customer interactions, and produce appropriate technical documentation.
  • Create and implement changes on the network through automation
  • Deliver simple sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes
  • Operate and trouble shoot network routing, interconnectivity, platforms, performance, and configuration issues: including low level application interaction, Linux systems, and next gen networking software tools
  • Maintain standards across the networking toolset and ensure that we are fully compliant to those standards and policies
  • Drive and support innovation from Top of Rack to the Network Border and everything in between
  • Work closely with the Network Architect to ensure fast. Smooth roll out of new designs and products. As well as assist with deployment and sustaining of network infrastructure and tooling
  • Proficient in with Python or Go programming language
  • Experience with automation frameworks, specifically Ansible. To write scripts and automate network configurations
  • Experience with key OpenShift networking concepts, like Open vSwitch (OVS) / Open Virtual Network (OVN) to create an overlay network on top of the physical infrastructure to facilitate pod communication across nodes
  • Experience using the OpenShift Kubernetes Container Network Interface (CNI) to interact with different network plugins and manage pod networking
  • Familiarity with configuring, deploying. And maintaining the MetalLB Operator for traffic load balancing on bare metal clusters
  • Experience using Red Hat OpenShift Service Mesh for discovery, load balancing. Service to service authentication. Failure recovery, metrics and monitoring services
  • Proficient with the Network Observability Operator for network debugging and insights
  • Ability to effectively communicate with team members, vendors and customers to understand requirements and implement solutions
  • Proficient time management to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast paced networking environment


Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related fields. Work experience in relevant fields may be considered for equivalency.

8+ years of hands-on experience in a network support and design or similar technical role/environment to include, but not limited to:
  • Network Eng with Development background
  • Knowledge SDN (Software Defined Network)
  • Network/Hardware Infrastructure exp
  • Restful API - automation / scripting exp
  • Kubernetes Container / OpenShift (RedHat)
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+ or equivalent.

Desired Skills and Certifications.

  • Experience of networking: development, design, and protocols
    Familiarity with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools.
  • Use RESTful Application Programming Interface (API) to send files or data to a server on network
    Experience configurating directly into network devices such as routers and switches, primarily managing network infrastructure
  • Utilize scripting and automation tools for network management, configuration management
  • Demonstrated experience in design/implementing network measures.
    Basic knowledge or experience with Kubernetes, ansible, or other system languages
    Experience with automated tools.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+ or equivalent.
  • Current eligibility (favorable adjudication) for Top Secret//SCI w/CI Poly access.
