Altus specializes in ensuring operational readiness of range targets, MOUT sites, and systems through maintenance, operation, and support, including at Moody AFB in Georgia. In this dual-role position, the Full-Time Computer Operator II/Part-Time Range Control Officer (RCO) will support both computer operations and range control systems to ensure the success of mission-critical operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in computer systems management and range safety operations, with the ability to seamlessly support air traffic and operational readiness. This role requires adaptability, attention to detail, and the capability to integrate both responsibilities effectively in a dynamic environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

As a Computer Operator II:
  • Initiate and maintain computer systems operations, including system diagnostics and troubleshooting.
  • Load and manage system programs, monitor operational functions, and make on-the-spot corrections.
  • Handle routine error corrections, data editing, and notify maintenance personnel of system malfunctions.
  • Provide training and observations for other computer operators.
  • Maintain and operate threat emitters, Portable Infantry Targets Systems (PITS), and radar scoring systems.
  • Deploy, program, and operate various portable and fixed threat systems, including pyrotechnical threat devices.
  • Conduct maintenance and repair of vehicles, heavy equipment, and facilities, including roads, fences, and target areas.
  • Perform landscaping tasks, general housekeeping, and preventive maintenance for operational readiness.


As a Range Control Officer (RCO):
  • The RCO is the real-time airspace manager and determines if weather conditions, range personnel and equipment is ready for range operations.
  • Coordinates Air Traffic Control and using agencies to insure the smooth operation and overall flight safety of the range.
  • Authorizes use of threat emitters for the aircraft using the range.
  • Grants authority for all weapons used by aircraft and ground personnel on the range.
  • Maintains continuous radio communications with all aircraft on the range and ensures each aircraft is cleared before weapons release or to continue a dry pass.
  • Authorizes the use of laser operations on the range.
  • Grants authority for range personnel to fire simulated Sam missiles at aircraft using the range.
  • Grants authority for personnel to enter the range area during operations.


Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • As minimum will have experience as a rated aircrew member, an Air Traffic Controller, an Air Battle Manager, a Terminal Attack Controller, a Weapons Director, a previous range control officer or equivalent test experience.
  • Experience in computer operations, air traffic management, or tactical military range operations.


Technical Skills:
  • Proficient in operating and maintaining computer systems, radar, and scoring systems.
  • Familiarity with tactical employment of range threats and target systems.
  • Knowledge of air operations, emergency response protocols, and range safety practices.


Licenses/Certifications:
  • Valid Drivers License.
  • Current U.S. DoD SECRET Security Clearance (must be maintained).


Work Conditions:

Work conditions will vary and include outdoor environments, occasionally requiring work from elevated platforms using fall protection harnesses, with temperatures ranging from 0 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. The position requires the ability to lift at least 50 pounds and a willingness to work overtime as needed. Physical ability to meet the minimum requirements outlined in Air Force Instruction 13-212 is essential. The role also involves working independently, making sound decisions under pressure, and traveling within a 75-mile radius to meet operational demands.
