This role plays a vital part in safeguarding public safety, verifying structural integrity, and promoting quality construction practices. This position requires deployment to disaster areas within 48 hours of notification.

Key Responsibilities Inspection Planning
- Schedule and coordinate inspections at various stages of construction, including foundation, framing, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and final inspections.
- Conduct thorough inspections to verify adherence to building codes, zoning ordinances, fire safety regulations, and environmental standards.
- Review construction plans, blueprints, specifications, and permit applications for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance before inspections.
- Assess the quality of materials, workmanship, and construction practices, identifying deficiencies or deviations from approved plans.
- Provide recommendations for corrective actions when necessary.
- Inspect construction sites for safety hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Verify the implementation of safety measures to protect workers and the public.
- Document inspection findings, violations, and enforcement actions using standardized forms and logs.
- Maintain accurate records of all inspections and related actions.
- Communicate inspection results and recommendations to contractors, builders, developers, architects, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure compliance.
- Issue stop-work orders, violation notices, and correction orders for non-compliance.
- Follow up on enforcement actions to ensure timely resolution.
- Provide guidance to property owners, contractors, and the public on building codes, permit requirements, and inspection procedures.
- Stay informed about changes in building codes, construction techniques, and industry standards through ongoing training and education.
- No direct supervisory responsibilities required.
- In-depth knowledge of building codes, zoning ordinances, fire safety regulations, and relevant laws governing construction.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail to identify construction defects, code violations, and safety hazards.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for professional interaction with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency with inspection tools, equipment, and software for documenting findings and generating reports.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing deadlines.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Willingness to travel and work in disaster-affected areas for extended periods under challenging conditions.
- Must live within driving distance of a metropolitan airport.
- Certifications in specific inspection disciplines (e.g., electrical, plumbing, structural).
- Experience with construction management software, inspection systems, or GIS tools.
- Knowledge of green building practices and energy efficiency standards.
- Bilingual proficiency to communicate effectively with diverse communities.
- High school diploma (or equivalent) with 10+ years of experience in a related field.
- Extensive experience in construction, building inspection, code enforcement, or related fields, with knowledge of building methods, materials, and systems.
- Certification as a Building Inspector or Construction Inspector from a recognized organization (e.g., International Code Council (ICC), American Association of Code Enforcement (AACE)) is highly desirable.
- Must be able to obtain and sustain a Public Trust clearance.
