Pay Range

$120,510 - $147,564 Annually for the 337.1 Level

Job Description

We have an opening for an Electronics Engineering Technical Associate supporting various programs. You will provide advanced electronics technical support including the design and assembly of complex systems and components based on specifications. You will provide project direction, establish scope of work, develop, and implement advanced technical support in the design of experimental, research, and prototype equipment and components in support of Weapon Technologies and Engineering Program (WTE) mission. You will be responsible for many aspects of the WTE programs supporting product development, experimental assembly builds, verification and testing meeting design definition requirements. You will have an active role in decision making throughout the design lifecycle process and oversee, mentor, and guide technical staff. Work will be performed mainly centralized in the B131 High Bay but will at times span to other LLNL facilities including Site 300. Travel to other DOE Laboratories, Production Agencies, and vendors may also be required. This position is in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED) supporting the Strategic Deterrence (SD) Principal Directorate.

In this role you will
  • Provide expert level and innovative electronic support and hands-on operations through the design and assembly of complex systems and components based on specifications from engineers, physicists, or other personnel.
  • Develop original solutions to complex, unique, and challenging technical problems, determining appropriate work methods, and establishing priorities to meet programmatic requirements using independent discretion and judgment.
  • Provide design, evaluation, fabrication, testing, assembly, quality policy implementation, and author, critically review, and oversee the development of documentation of various projects using complex data analysis interpretation and skills.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and/or modify complex electrical components in variable testing conditions.
  • Initiate, prepare, and participate in design reviews, meetings, and other briefings, including contributing to the determination of concepts and the refinement of designs.Collaborate with scientists, engineers, technical personnel, facility engineers, facility safety personnel, and technicians both inside and outside the work group on both an individual and team basis in support of the program.Travel to other National Security Enterprise and vendor sites may be required.Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top-Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technologies, or the equivalent combination of education and experience in a technical or engineering field.
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in electronic engineering theory, design, fabrication, and/or assembly in solving complex technical problems.
  • Advanced level knowledge and understanding of electronic systems and designs with sensitive components including understanding behavior under high voltage, electrostatic and electromagnetic environments.
  • Significant experience developing conceptual designs of electronic or electro-mechanical systems; designing, implementing, and/or testing experimental assemblies; and with associated tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Advanced written and verbal documentation and communication skills with proven ability to present concepts and ideas in a clear and articulate manner.
  • Advanced knowledge of cable design, manufacturing, specialized tooling and fixturing.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and detail-orientation necessary to oversee testing, operations, data collection and interpretation of engineering and/or scientific data.
  • Ability to effectively work as a key member within a team in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.

Qualifications We Desire
  • Knowledge and experience with computer systems, programming languages (C, C++, VHDL, Unity, LabVIEW).
  • Knowledge of and interpretation of engineering design and engineering drawings, including industry standard ASME Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing standards (GD&T), and material properties.
  • Experience working with classified materials and components, documentation, and/or experimental data.

Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL. Situated on 7,000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore, Site 300 hosts approximately 200 employees with expertise in such fields as engineering, chemistry, biology, and environmental restoration. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis).

Security Clearance
