MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. Selected candidate must be MOS qualified within 12 months from date of appointment. Title 32 employees will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor (grade inversion).

GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Must be a rated pilot on flying status; possess at least one year on-the-job experience and a competent understanding of the basic principles and concepts of this position based on possession of the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates OR appropriate military certifications and/or military ratings in the main-frame military aircraft; and the required competencies (knowledge, skills, and abilities).
GS-13 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess two years specialized experience in piloting and instructing pilot skills in one or more of the following main-frame/military aircraft: Fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA), providing instruction, evaluation and examination of rated pilots and instructor pilots in flying techniques; and experience must reflect qualification competencies in the following three factors: the aircraft operated; the nature and purpose of assignments, and the degree of hazard. The specialized experience must demonstrate your ability to operate a specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, and mission preparation; review and analyze mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information; file flight plans and conduct crew briefings; perform aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments; perform or supervise work procedures involved in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue operations or surveillance and reconnaissance; competently conduct or supervise the training of crew members in simple to complex mission specific tasks; and develop plans and policies, monitor operations, and advise commanders; and experience that demonstrates knowledge of flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, mission tactics, and operating procedures; unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with appropriate policies, regulations, and directives.

Education
Warrant Officers: Must have a high school diploma or general education development (GED) diploma. An undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university is optimum. Must have Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs or must have aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
Second and First Lieutenants: Must be actively pursuing an under- graduate degree with at least 90 validated credit hours in a specified program. Must have Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs OR must have aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
Captains and above: Must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university. A Graduate Degree from an accredited civilian academic college or from an equivalent professional military education school is optimum. Must have Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs OR must have aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.

- Conducts refresher, mission and continuation combat training in advance attack helicopters involving aggressor and defensive maneuvers and aerial gunnery practice with heavy ordinance.
- Trains and instructs pilots in the operation of heavy multi-engine transport helicopters to transport equipment and personnel in combat situations.
- Trains pilots in the full range of aircraft maneuvers required in combat situations.
- Provides instruction in emergency procedures such as loss of propulsion, directional control or related systems.
- Performs flights in all-weather/environmental conditions, day and night, and using night vision devices.
- Prepares and presents related classroom instruction. Recommends whether pilots remain in flight status.
- Conducts refresher, mission and continuation training in light fixed wing or utility and observer helicopters.
- Trains pilots in basic and advanced techniques required to support the pilot's unit mission.
- Conducts training flights involving a substantial degree of hazard such as training helicopter pilots in advanced flight techniques required in combat situations.
- Conducts training flights involving a substantial degree of hazard such as training helicopter pilots in tactical flying at night in all weather conditions and with the use of night vision devices.
- Conducts training flights involving a substantial degree of hazard such as training helicopter pilots in flight maneuvers which take advantage of the terrain, low level flight, short field takeoffs and landings flying in formation.
- Conducts training flights involving a substantial degree of hazard such as training helicopter pilots in evasive maneuvers and emergency procedures involving engine failures and malfunctions of hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Performs maintenance test flights of aircraft following repair or maintenance.
- Advises and represents the Commander on all matters concerning aviation/ground safety related to the facility.
- Develops, maintains and rehearses the current accident and pre-accident prevention plans for the aviation facility.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Conditions of Employment
- Prior to appointment, an applicant's military medical record must indicate a completed and current medical physical, flight physical, medical profile, and completed/cleared drug test.
- Possess a valid state driver's license to operate government motor vehicles, for the state in which they live or are principally employed, in accordance with Army and Air Force Vehicle Operations Directives.
- Management has the right to convert this position to permanent status without re-advertising.
- Employment can be terminated with a 30 day notice.
- In the event a permanent (Tenure 1 or 2) employee is selected, and is willing to accept the indefinite appointment, that employee will relinquish permanent status.
