Responsibilities

Peraton seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to support a government aviation program. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining data pipelines and systems to support aviation operations. This role will focus on managing large sets of mission-critical aviation data, ensuring its quality, security, and availability for analysis and decision-making. The Data Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design data architectures that optimize data flow, storage, and access across various systems, enabling timely insights for aviation operations and intelligence.

Examples of duties include but not limited to:
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines to ingest, process, and store large volumes of aviation-related data from multiple sources, including mission data, sensors, communications, and flight logs.
  • Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and design systems that support data analysis, reporting, and operational decision-making.
  • Ensure data integrity, consistency, and quality by implementing data validation and cleansing techniques throughout the data lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with aviation operations teams to understand data flow and integrate data sources into centralized storage systems or data lakes.
  • Design and implement database architectures (SQL/NoSQL) to ensure efficient data retrieval, analysis, and reporting.
  • Optimize performance and scalability of data systems to handle high throughput and real-time data processing needs for aviation operations.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant data security and privacy regulations, including data encryption and access control for sensitive operational data.
  • Build automated processes for data collection, transformation, and delivery, ensuring high reliability and uptime for mission-critical systems.
  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting data-related issues and resolving problems related to data integration, storage, or performance.
  • Monitor data systems, identify areas for optimization, and implement improvements for data accuracy, performance, and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new data sources, develop custom data solutions, and implement best practices in data engineering.
  • Document data architecture, processes, and workflows, ensuring clear communication of technical requirements and solutions.
  • Stay current with emerging data engineering technologies and industry trends, ensuring the program remains on the cutting edge of data management solutions.
**This position is contingent upon award of contract**

Qualifications

Required Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in data engineering, data management, or a related field.
  • Strong experience with data pipeline development, data integration, and data processing using technologies such as Apache Kafka, Apache Spark, ETL tools, or similar.
  • Expertise in SQL and NoSQL database management systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud) and related data services.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala, for building data pipelines and automating data workflows.
  • Experience with data modeling, schema design, and data warehousing principles.
  • Knowledge of data security best practices and encryption methods, particularly in government or military contexts.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve complex data-related issues.
  • Ability to work with large, complex datasets and optimize performance for real-time data processing needs.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and reporting systems is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting government or military aviation programs, particularly with large-scale data systems.
  • Familiarity with aviation or operational data, including telemetry, sensor data, communications data, and flight operations logs.
  • Master's degree in Data Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is a plus.
Security Clearance: This Position requires an Active TS/SCI, US Citizenship is required to hold this clearance.

Target Salary Range

$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
