Instructional Duties
- Deliver comprehensive classroom and hands-on training in diving techniques, including SCUBA, surface-supplied diving, and the use of MK16 and MK25 Underwater Breathing Apparatus (UBA).
- Instruct students in diving medical procedures, salvage operations, and underwater demolition in alignment with U.S. Navy Diving Manual standards.
- Prepare personalized lesson plans and course materials using Government-furnished instructional guides, ensuring relevance and technical accuracy.
- Supervise and evaluate student performance during practical exercises in training tanks, pier-side locations, and open-water environments.
- Administer, grade, and review knowledge and performance tests to assess student comprehension and skill proficiency.
- Provide academic counseling and remediation for students experiencing difficulty with course content.
Curriculum and Course Maintenance
- Review and update instructional materials, test items, and lesson plans to reflect current diving procedures and safety standards.
- Participate in the curriculum surveillance process to identify and correct deficiencies in training materials.
- Collaborate with NDSTC leadership on curriculum development and participate in the Formal Course Review process to ensure training aligns with operational needs.
Classroom and Equipment Management
- Perform daily inspections and operational checks on diving equipment, training aids, and instructional devices to ensure functionality and safety.
- Maintain accurate inventory records for all diving gear and instructional materials, reporting discrepancies promptly.
- Ensure proper storage and security of all equipment and materials, adhering to NDSTC protocols.
Safety and Security
- Enforce compliance with all diving safety standards and operational readiness procedures as outlined in the U.S. Navy Diving Manual and OPNAVINST 3150.27.
- Conduct safety briefings for students before practical training exercises and monitor adherence to safety protocols.
- Report any safety violations, mishaps, or discrepancies to NDSTC leadership and the Technical Assistant (TA).
- Maintain security and confidentiality of student records and sensitive training materials.
Reporting and Coordination
- Submit daily reports on student attendance, progress, and any incidents to Division leadership.
- Coordinate with the TA and other instructors to address curriculum updates, training schedules, and classroom issues.
- Participate in regular meetings with leadership to align instructional activities with NDSTC's operational goals.
Qualifications
- Contract instructors at NDSTC shall be graduates of a U.S. Armed Forces NEC, MOS or AFSC producing Diving course taught at NDSTC. Each instructor assigned to NDSTC shall have successfully performed in a US Armed forces active-duty Military First Class Diver or higher or Diving Medical Technician (DMT) billet for a minimum of six years.
- All contract instructors supporting NDSTC shall be dive qualified. Instructors shall be capable and qualified to instruct students in training tanks, pier side, and in open water environments. Instructor shall be qualified in the diving equipment being instructed (i.e. SCUBA, MK16, MK25, or Surface Supplied Dive Rig, etc.).
- Certified and qualified in the diving equipment being instructed, such as SCUBA, MK16, MK25, or Surface Supplied Diving systems.
- Completion of a military Instructor Training (IT) Course or equivalent, such as Navy IT Course (CIN: A-012-0077).
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
- Current dive physical examination and psychological evaluation meeting U.S. Navy standards for high-risk training.
