What We're Looking For:

Are you a savvy Network Engineer looking to find your next role in an amazing organization? Iridium is looking for a Network Engineer III to join our Satellite Ops team! This position will play a vital role in the development, integration, monitoring, and testing of Iridium's Commercial and Government network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in network configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting, with a focus on security best practices and system hardening. Responsibilities include configuring, monitoring, and maintaining functional network infrastructure and equipment, performing network testing, validation, and troubleshooting to deliver a fault-tolerant, reliable, scalable, and automated infrastructure.

What You'll Do:
  • Assist in the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of complex network solutions using Cisco (routers, switches, firewalls), configure security appliances and next-generation firewalls such as FortiGate firewalls
  • Maintain network security policies, configure and update firewall rules, regularly audit network configurations and access controls and apply industry-standard security best practices to protect network infrastructure from vulnerabilities.
  • Implement and maintain best practices for hardening network devices
  • Support real-time troubleshooting and problem resolution support as well as 24x7 assistance as needed. Analyze network traffic, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions
  • Create and maintain network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, security policies, and procedures. Adhere to Configuration Management rules required to meet compliance standards
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments and best practices in network industries and technologies
  • Work collaboratively with vendors and service providers to evaluate, procure, and manage networking hardware and software solutions

What You'll Need to Succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience managing and maintaining mid-to-large scale LAN/WAN networks devices that include Cisco Routers, Switches, firewall and other vendors networking technologies.
  • Hands-on experience configuring and maintaining routing protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience configuring and maintaining protocols such as VLANs, STP, QoS, VPNs, SD-WAN, and features such as firewall polices, network segmentation, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and VPN configurations
  • Knowledge of network security frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS, ISO 27001), hardening network infrastructure, knowledge of USG IAVA and STIG processes and procedures, and knowledge of security compliance standards (e.g., PCI-DSS, HIPAA, GDPR) as they relate to network security
  • Hands-on experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG)
  • Possess network troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to operate in a high-pressure environment supporting daily operations of the Iridium Commercial, Mission, and Gov Customer networks across multiple sites
  • Able to summarize information about networking products, concepts, and/or issues and comfortably present such information to groups and individuals within the team
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to confidently present products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues
  • Possess an analytical mindset, with the ability to understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions or come up with solutions
  • B e comfortable managing upward, including being a proactive communicator and asking for help when needed
  • Have confidence and be able to establish valuable relationships with others
  • Must be able to prioritize key tasks and have a strong sense of ownership over your work
  • Be active in seeking out ways to continuously improve yourself and gain new knowledge


Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:
  • Certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) and Fortinet Network Security Certified Professional are preferred. Other certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+) are a plus.
  • Experience configuring and managing AWS cloud features, solutions, and services such as VPC, Transit Gateway, and AWS third party commercial network tools and products such as virtual routers and firewalls
  • Experience working in a Linux environment and with VMware or other hypervisor virtualized environments.
  • Well versed in MS PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio
  • Existing SECRET (or TOP-SECRET) level clearance preferred; ability to obtain clearance


We'll also need you to:
  • Be on-call as needed to support a 24x7 environment
  • Be able to travel occasionally, typically 3 to 4 times per year
  • Be able to lift 25 lbs. and climb a ladder
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must be able to work a hybrid schedule that includes a minimum of 3 days in the office


Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
