Summary
We are looking for a results-driven Accounting Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting the payroll operations of a dynamic and growing project-based company. This role is a member of the Shared Services Controller team and will be primarily responsible for ensuring employees are paid timely, accurately and consistently across the organization.
Responsibilities
Assist with supporting the month end close process and maintain the general ledger.
Process recurring Payroll transactions to include regular and overtime pay as well as bonuses and special payments
Timesheet maintenance and posting
Transmission of payroll data to third party service provider
Perform reconciliation and auditing processes during each pay cycle.
Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll and resolve any issues or discrepancies
Prepare and/or approve monthly journal entries (examples include cost accruals and payroll related transactions).
Collaborate with the HR team to ensure accurate employee data and that changes are properly reflected in payroll
Support Accounts Payable processing as needed
Perform cost analysis; ensure costs are recorded to the correct project

Qualifications
REQUIRED: the items listed below are required, candidates must have these skills to be considered for the position:
HS diploma/GED
Two or more years of experience supporting payroll transaction processing
Knowledge and understanding of payroll elements - federal, state and local taxes; employee benefit deductions
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively work cross-functionally
Strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to plan and organize
PREFERRED; the items listed below are preferred skills, candidates with these skills will be considered over other candidates:
Experience working with Deltek/Costpoint or similar Accounting System
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related Business field
Willingness to focus on continuous improvement and identify opportunities for automation
