Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
The intern will work on concurrent projects involving Hypersonic Modeling and Simulation (M&S), ground testing, and operations analysis (OA) using Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration and Simulation (AFSIM) at MTSI's headquarters office in Alexandria, VA. Supporting team includes the developers for our Hypersonic Rapid Analysis and Design (HyperRADS) multiphysics modeling and simulation (M&S) system and MTSI's Director of Hypersonics who brings 40+ years of Boeing experience including leadership of the Phantom Works Hypersonic Capability Center. We also have a team of PhD level subject matter experts (SMEs) with extensive industrial and academic experience reaching back to the 1980's National Aerospace Plane (NASP) program.
The intern will begin work with HyperRADS which combines commercial software within an environment created by the MTSI development team involving expert templates, libraries, functional capability development and verification, test data validation and data management. HyperRADS has been developed so that a single engineer can conduct all phases of multi-physics M&S to rapidly and reliably produce actionable data. MTSI employs it to support multiple US Government programs.
The intern will also be introduced to OA M&S and campaign-level analysis which is a foundational capability used to assess and inform development of new concepts, systems and capabilities including hypersonics. MTSI is widely recognized for its OA M&S capability.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
- BS in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering and Pursuing an MS in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
- Graduating in CY2026, not committed to other organizations after graduation and would consider joining MTSI in Washington DC area after graduation
- Strong performance in courses relevant to hypersonics including multiphysics M&S, fluid/gas dynamics, aerothermal
- Interest in M&S, OA, Campaign Analysis
- Comfortable supporting multiple concurrent projects in a dynamic environment
- Has a US Secret clearance (preferred) or is able to apply for a clearance with MTSI assistance
- Interested to leverage the capabilities of their university to support current & future work
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with help from experienced team members
- Must possess communication skills for interacting with other engineers/analysts and customers
Desired Skills
- Experience with a CAD modelers (Solidworks) and CFD solvers (STAR-CCM+)
- Experience in programming with Python, MATLAB, C++, R, HTML/JavaScript
- Some experience in Unity game engine and C# coding language, and building responsive UI within Unity
- Knowledge of code versioning tools (Git)
Educational Requirements:
- Engineering student with a focus in the electrical engineering, software engineering, computer science, or aerospace engineering fields
- GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Clearance Requirements:
- Ability to obtain/maintain a government security clearance.
- Please Note: U.S. Citizenship is required for most MTSI positions.
