Cultural Advisor / Linguist (Mandarin Language)

Position Overview:
Serve as a Cultural Advisor / Linguist (Mandarin Language) supporting the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), European Field Office (EUFO), assisting in evaluating current and emerging adversarial threats focusing on USG, DoD, and NCIS personnel, infrastructures, and/or resources.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for Mandarin language and cultural expertise, assisting intelligence and analysis operations in a virtual environment; primarily using mix of Mandarin/English in-language reading and writing skills.
• Conduct a vast array of cultural analytical activities, to include translating complex texts containing difficult, idiomatic, scientific, and colloquial writing and capture subtleties, nuance, tone, and register; producing text reflecting a specific culture from analysis to argumentation, capturing socio-cultural elements.
• Apply foreign language skills, area/geographical knowledge, and subject matter expertise in a collaborative environment to review and assess foreign publicly available data (websites, online platforms, mobile applications, social media and traditional press sources) to identify trends, patterns and relationships.
• Provide thorough and responsive requests for assistance (RFA), requests for support (RFS), and requests for information (RFI), analyze data, and write analytic products, white papers, working papers, and other finished all-source intelligence assessments on substantive issues as determined by the Government.

Requirements:
• Five (5) years of current, demonstrated, and relevant experience performing a vast array of cultural analytical activities, to include translating a wide variety of complex texts containing difficult, idiomatic, scientific, and colloquial writing and capture subtleties, nuance, tone, and register; producing text reflecting a specific culture from analysis to argumentation, capturing socio-cultural elements.
• Five (5) years of current, demonstrated, and relevant experience in the application of foreign language skills, area/geographical knowledge, and subject matter expertise in a collaborative environment to review and assess foreign publicly available data (websites, online platforms, mobile applications, social media and traditional press sources) to identify trends, patterns and relationships.
• Three (3) years of current, demonstrated, and relevant experience responding to requests for assistance (RFA), requests for support (RFS), and requests for information (RFI), analyze data, and write analytic products, white papers, working papers, and other finished all-source intelligence assessments on substantive issues as determined by the Government.
• Conversational capabilities in Italian language.
• Shall have and maintain a minimum proficiency of level three (3) in listening and reading, in the specified languages, as prescribed by the Interagency Language Round Table (ILRT) and the Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) for the target language.
• Shall have an advanced working proficiency in English, ILRT 2+, based on the current DLPT.
• Current, demonstrated, and relevant experience deployed as a linguist supporting contingency operations in support of DoD activities.
• Current, demonstrated, and relevant knowledge of U.S. Intelligence Community, military, cryptologic, and law enforcement operations.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in target-language and English
