The Materials and Process Engineering Department, which functions within the Mechanical Team, is looking for a chemist to join our team in Andover, MA. This position will offer a qualified candidate the opportunity to engage subject matter experts and perform analytical chemistry testing to support development, design, and failure analysis activities associated with a wide range of product applications. Tasks will require critical thinking to solve challenging problems and careful attention to detail on procedures, testing of materials, and documentation of results. Collaboration with design & material engineers, subject matter experts, and suppliers is required. Candidate must be able to manage and coordinate a wide variety of simultaneous tasks within set schedule requirements. This candidate will become part of a multi-disciplined team.

What You Will Do:

• Assess materials based on conformance to specifications
• Assess parts and hardware based on conformance to design requirements
• Conduct hands on analytical chemistry using a variety of laboratory techniques
• Follow standard written protocols, as well as developing and fabricating unique test plans and test setups
• Review material documentation and assessment of specifications
• Engage with subject matter experts to understand material usage
• Engage with suppliers

T he Sr. Chemistry Materials Engineer job is in Andover, MA and the position is onsite.

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Typically requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 9+ years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience
• Experience in Analytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis (i.e. Infrared Spectroscopy and Chromatography)
• The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Ability to troubleshoot analytical instrument problems, perform analysis, and interpret data
• Understanding and coursework in Materials Science and Polymer Science
• Understanding of material safety datasheets, military specifications, and ASTM test methods
• Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses
• Demonstrated ability to lead and complete large scale multi-disciplined scientific based projects including failure analysis investigations

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
