Responsibilities

Sabre Systems is actively seeking a skilled Linux Systems Administrator to support one of our government clients at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Lexington Park, MD. The Linux Systems Administrator will be responsible for building, configuring, and troubleshooting systems within a Linux environment. The ideal candidate will have a background in Linux system administration and must adhere to NAVAIR and DISA policies, as well as industry best practices.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Installing, configuring, and managing the Linux operating systems and related tool sets supporting NAVAIR
  • gathering requirements, developing, and conducting design reviews, along with "as approved" implementations within the mainstream corporate infrastructure
  • Keeping servers "compliant" per NAVAIR and DISA policies to include backup and disaster recovery requirements, anti-virus protection, and implementing system security.
  • Knowledge of backup plans and rotation cycles
  • Maintaining the information on the Knowledge Base site
  • Producing documentation that details and describes the systems, procedures, events, and any associated processes.
  • Building new infrastructure servers
  • Maintaining, tuning, and patching systems for optimum performance and security
  • Migrating or upgrading systems, where applicable
  • Participating in weekly routine maintenance tasks
  • Responding to system failures promptly to bring applications back online.

Qualifications

  • At least 6 to 8 years' hands-on experience working with Linux, with a background in computer engineering/science or equivalent.
  • Experience in DoD Information Assurance/Cyber policy and procedures to include hardening of systems, implementing Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and scanning.
  • Experience with Linux Server to include the build, maintenance, and troubleshooting, as well as addressing, service requests, routine sever maintenance (firmware, failures, hardening, etc.), and server consolidation.
  • Experience with Linux, Red Hat, CentOS (Linux)
  • Windows experience optional
  • Virtualization experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of hardware and software troubleshooting methods
  • DoD 8570 compliant (Security + certified and OS certificate/certification)
  • Working knowledge of supporting software development
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to "think-outside-the-box" to solve complex technical issues is essential.
  • Candidate must have an active DoD Secret Clearance or higher.
  • Occasional travel will be required.
  • Work shifts are variable and could include day/evening/night. Possible weekend work may be necessary depending on customer requirements and schedules.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a background investigation.
