BlueHalo is seeing a self-motivated, productive, and results-oriented early to mid-level Thermal Engineer or Mechanical Engineer with thermal experience. This role will directly support the AirForce Research Laboratory's (AFRL) Thermal Lab within AFRL/RVSV (Spacecraft Component Technology branch of the Space Vehicles Directorate) on Kirtland AirForce Base. As a key member of the Thermal Lab, this engineer's duties will span research and development in formulating concepts, system design, building mockups/prototypes, testing feasibility, designing and conducting experiments, modeling and simulation, preparation for flight experiments, and execution of flight experiments. Success in this role requires communication and collaboration with internal and external contractors and government subject matter experts.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thermal system evaluation and analysis to improve efficiency and performance.
- Design and execute experiments and tests, with a preference for SolidWorks for CAD modeling.
- Develop clear and concise testing procedures that can be executed by team members with limited prior experience with the systems.
- Utilize Excel, MATLAB, or Python for data analysis and performance reporting.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment for thermal testing.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive project success.
- Travel occasionally to support project tasking and attend conferences.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering +2 years experience or Master's degree +1 year experience
- High vacuum environment experience
- Experience in heat transfer including convection
- Thermal system evaluation and analysis
- Test/experiment design (SolidWorks preferred), setup, and execution
- Ability to write testing procedures which can be carried out by team members with little prior knowledge of the systems being used.
- Proficiency with Excel, MATLAB, or Python to perform data analysis
- Experience using laboratory equipment
- Technical presentation and writing
- Willingness to travel occasionally, for project tasking and conferences
- Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance

- Active Secret level clearance
- Experience with Thermal Desktop
- Understanding of technical drawing with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Experience with LabVIEW
- Experience with or desire to manage laboratory spaces and equipment
- Experience working in or around military environments
