SG2 Recruiting is partnering with Avum. They are seeking a talented, highly motivated, and security-focused infrastructure engineer who can perform the following daily tasks, including but not limited to managing system networks, creating and managing virtual servers, troubleshooting various Linux and Windows-based systems, setting up and managing configuration management on servers, and setting up and performing basic administrative tasks on containerization environments. The candidate should be comfortable working with a diverse team of individuals locally and remotely. The ability to always learn and share knowledge with peers in a fast-paced atmosphere is required to be successful in this dynamic role. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and able to pass a T5 background investigation.

What You Will Be Doing:

Assist in editing firewall policies in Juniper routers.

Monitor and analyze firewall traffic for malicious behavior.

Deploy web, database, and other virtual servers in appropriate security zones in adherence with NIST 800-171 security standards.

Check for and apply critical operating system patch updates.

Troubleshoot and update VMWare ESXi servers in a production environment

Assist and manage backup processes and disaster recovery strategies.

Create and manage compliance documentation and reporting of infrastructure and systems.

Setting up and maintaining configuration management for servers

Installing and performing basic admin tasks for Kubernetes-based platforms

What You Will Need

Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a curriculum or major field of study that provides substantial valuable knowledge in system development and is closely related to the work detailed above, and/or in a computer science, information systems, physical science, engineering or a mathematics–intensive discipline, or an applicable training certificate from an accredited training institution

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

Self-driven, self-reliant, and highly motivated

Possess the ability to collaborate with other team members or work independently to meet project requirements and expectations.

Possess the ability to solve problems, identify risks, and communicate results and recommendations to leadership and customers.

Must be very thorough, meticulous, and attentive to detail as appropriate for all work activities

Quantitative analytical and problem-solving skills

Experience configuring networking devices, such as routers, switches, and VPNs

Experience deploying new Linux and Windows systems

Experience with virtualization

Knowledge of infrastructure security and server hardening

Certified CompTIA Security+

If You Have This, It Is A Plus:

JNCIA-Junos or greater

Certified in Linux OS

vSphere Experience

Experience with cloud networking

Experience with Kubernetes clusters

Experience deploying and maintaining configuration management such as Ansible or Puppet

Experience applying NIST 800-171 compliance

Location:

The candidate must interact and coordinate remotely with external project team members and other Avum employees. As a remote employee, the candidate will not have permanent office or desk space but may be required to attend in-person meetings. This may require travel to government sites in Washington, D.C., and the Avum office in Agoura Hills, California. Our priority is acquiring the most qualified candidate to satisfactorily perform the required tasks, including team collaboration, regardless of the candidate’s geographical location.

NOTE: This fully remote role requires the candidate to participate in meetings virtually using tools like Microsoft Teams. Online availability during the core hours of 9 AM PST/PDT to 4 PM PST/PDT, Monday through Friday, will be required—availability to support EST core hours as needed.
