YOU'D LIKE TO DO THIS:

BlueHalo seeks a Group Lead of Systems Engineering to join our Space Technologies team. As the lead of Systems Engineering, you will play a critical part in developing technology and products that enable satellite laser communications, command and control, data handling, and remote sensing.

This role is pivotal in leading a team of highly skilled systems engineers to ensure the smooth operation and continuous improvement of our engineering systems. As the landscape of technology continues to evolve, we need a forward-thinking leader to drive innovation and maintain our competitive edge. The Group Lead of Systems Engineering will be instrumental in shaping the future of our engineering practices by overseeing complex development projects and programs and managing cross-functional teams. This position offers a unique opportunity to blend technical expertise with leadership capabilities, making it an incredibly rewarding role for the right candidate. This position will require full-time, on-site work in Albuquerque, NM.

On any given day, the selected candidate may be asked to:
  • Coordinate with Systems Engineering Leads for team priorities and tasking.
  • Understand the big picture as well as fine details to make technical decisions, sometimes in situations in which a complete set of data is not available.
  • Responsible for technical systems engineering including architecture development, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), requirements development and compliance tracking, management and flow-down, integration, test, and transition to production.
  • Coordination with Program Management and Integration and Test Lead for successful product verification and transition to production.
  • Work closely with the Program Chief Engineer and Program Manager to ensure each system is designed, built, integrated, and tested to meet all corporate objectives and satisfies customer/contractual requirements.
  • Establish and maintain policies, processes and procedures for systems engineering documentation such as System Engineering Management Plans, Initial Capabilities Documents, Requirement Specifications, Interface Control Documents, System Integration Plans, and Test Plans.
  • Persistent improvement and/or implementation of system engineering tools and artifacts - e.g. concepts of operation, architecture, models, requirements and specifications flow-down, compliance matrices, verification and validation plans, interface control, etc.
  • Work closely with the Division Technical Director and Chief Engineer to improve processes and drive innovation in product development, including materials, analysis methods, and system architectures.
  • Responsible for technical proposal development, including rallying team thoughts and feedback and turning them into cohesive documentation and proposal justification.
  • Coordinate and communicate the systems view for both internal and external stakeholders - understanding and communicating the big picture while tracking and managing the fine details.
  • Manage and motivate through listening, communicating, coaching, mentoring, delegation, and empowerment; multi-disciplinary engineering teams with technical decisions that balance all corporate and customer objectives, maintaining forward momentum even in situations where precedent is lacking, and information is incomplete.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and a problem-solving mindset, with a structured problem-solving approach.
  • Size and prepare the Systems Engineering team to support active and future Space Technologies programs and IR&D.
  • Develop the Space Technologies Systems Engineering team through hiring, retention, personal goals development, employee assessment/guidance, training, and growth path planning.
  • Systems Engineering resource support for overflow and on-demand division and program tasking (including yet not limited to: Requirements, Modeling, Analysis, Research, Reports, Testing, Integration, Design and Test Reviews, and Mission Assurance documentation).
  • Lead and manage a team of systems engineers
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of engineering systems
  • Develop and implement engineering strategies to improve efficiency and performance
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Collaborate with other departments to align engineering efforts with business objectives
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members
  • Stay updated on the latest industry trends and technologies

YOU'RE REQUIRED TO HAVE THIS:
  • Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, space, aerospace, electrical, mechanical, or optical systems.
  • 8 years of device engineering experience, preferably encompassing a variety of direct experience across multiple disciplines, such as mechanical, optical, electrical, software, firmware, and controls for space capabilities.
  • Experience with tools supporting design, development, modeling, analysis, testing, and delivery of components, assemblies, and systems.
  • 3 years leading systems engineering for multi-disciplinary teams, supporting design, development, execution, testing, and delivery; preferably for space systems.
  • Experience with advanced system engineering tools and software (e.g. JAMA, CAMEO, Reliance, python, MATLAB, ANSYS).
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and methodologies including PM&P, Mission Assurance verification analyses (e.g., Reliability, Stress Derating, Radiation Effects, etc.).
  • Familiarity with industry standards and compliance requirements, including AS9100D.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in systems engineering, space, aerospace, electrical, mechanical, or optical systems.
  • 10+ years of device engineering experience, preferably encompassing a variety of direct experience across multiple disciplines, such as mechanical, optical, electrical, software, firmware, and controls for space capabilities.
  • 5+ years leading systems engineering for multi-disciplinary teams, supporting design, development, execution, testing, and delivery; preferably for space systems.
  • Demonstrated engineering management and team leadership skills, preferably in the execution of programs from inception and scoping through execution and delivery.
  • Demonstrated success of the development and implementation of Systems Engineering policies, practices, and procedures (e.g. engineering rigor/documentation, MBSE, innovation).
  • Current/Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
