Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Operates, maintains and repairs electrical systems; standby electrical power generation equipment; fire and security alarm systems; appliances; and assists with minor mechanical support of vehicles under the technical guidance of the Maintenance Supervisor.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Repairs and maintains standby electrical power generation equipment, automatic power transfer switches, operational control and alarm systems; service and distribution systems including main and distribution switchboards, panelboard fuses and transformers; motor connections and controls including starters and motor control centers; lighting including incandescent, fluorescent, recessed, surface, weatherproof, vaportight and underwater; dimmers; and signal and fire alarm systems including pull stations, ionization smoke detectors, sprinkler flow switches, supervisory valve and control panels.
  • Performs routine maintenance and repair, scheduled preventative maintenance, and testing of electrical distribution systems, circuits, and equipment in accordance with established schedules, operating procedures, and equipment warranty. Arranges with Facility Manager (FM) at Post for periodic testing and evaluation of backup electrical systems.
  • Installs and renovates electrical systems and individual components thereof in compliance with applicable US codes (when applicable).
  • Maintains records of work accomplished, parts used, and updates as-built drawings.
  • Inspects electrical work performed by outside contractors to assure proper practices and contract compliance, reporting findings to the contracting officer.
  • Determines necessary spare parts and expendable supply requirements and manages stock to include reorder as required. Advises and assists the FM regarding procurement.
  • Travels to local vendors as necessary to procure materials; participates in random procurement process as necessary; uses petty cash when necessary.
  • Personnel shall be trained in emergency evacuation of passengers from elevator cars in accordance with ASME A17.4 Guide for Emergency Personnel.
  • Provides escort as necessary for LES and other non-cleared workers.
  • Backs-up other Contractor staff as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE
  1. Education

Completion of secondary school required or obtained a GED, completion of vocational or trade school program in electrical and electronics systems producing journeyman level skill required.
  1. Prior Work Experience

Licensed journeyman electrician with minimum 5 years of progressively responsible positions in the maintenance and construction of electrical repairs and maintenance in the industry and troubleshooting electronic control systems experience required. Experience is include, but not limited to, switchgear, distribution system, and general building electrical maintenance and repair.
  1. Knowledge

Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, electrical schematic diagrams, PLC schematics required trade manuals, equipment operation and maintenance manuals, and electrical and electrical/ mechanical utility code books. Must be able to work on medium voltage electrical systems and transformers.
  1. Skills and Abilities

Must be able to correctly use tools of the trade, power equipment such as threaders, and drills. Possess basic computer skills, use a calculator to determine cost data and calculate man-hours for work elements, must be able to use electrical testing equipment such as ohm meters, meg-ohm meters amp meters, and other electrical component testing equipment. Top Secret clearance is required.
