GIS System Engineer
Location: Huntsville, AL
As a GIS System Engineer, you will be part of the Cartographic Web Services (CWS) Team. CWS is a proven solution for rapid production of cartographic products that leverages over 30 years of Hexagon US Federal research and development into the automation of the cartographic process. The CWS product is currently being used by national mapping agencies to produce series-based maps at the national mapping agency level for both military and humanitarian missions.
You will be responsible for developing, updating, and maintaining new/existing automated mapping workflows and support files for CWS. Working closely with senior team members, you will be responsible for design and enhancements that support various government organizations and end users. You will work with cartographic subject matter experts to ensure compliance to specifications. Some tasks can be performed remotely, however on-site work in Huntsville, AL will be required.

Job Duties
- Participate in design and implementation of cartographic automation workflows
- Independently perform cartographic tasks associated with one or more GIS concepts; imagery analysis, geospatial map production and the evaluation and use of GIS data.
- Recommend appropriate GIS strategy in response to GIS analysis results.
- Deliver new features, enhancements, and bug fixes
- Responsible for end-to-end delivery of workflow support files
- Install, configure, test, and maintain application software and system management tools
- Monitor and test application performance for bottlenecks, identify solutions and work with developers to implement fixes
- Provide end user support
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geography, or relevant coursework in geographic information science with 8 or more years of applicable experience, or equivalent experience.
- Advanced knowledge of GIS software and technology (GeoMedia, DCS, ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, etc.)
- Adept in a variety of GIS concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Experience with FME (Feature Manipulation Engine)
- Experience with relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL/PostGIS)
- Experience with web services (e.g. WFS, WMS, WCS)
- Proficient with the Windows Operating System (Desktop and Server)
- US citizenship with an ability to obtain a Top Secret Security Clearance
- Familiarity with standard cartographic products (TM, MTM, JOG, TPC, etc.)
- Familiarity with standard GEOINT data sources (TDS, MGCP, OSM, etc.)
- Experience with source control management (SCM) tools like Team Foundation Server
- Proficient with FME (Feature Manipulation Engine)
- Familiarity with Windows application environments: networking, file-systems, services, package management
- Experience with JavaScript, Python and other scripting languages
- GDAL experience
