Overview

Tecolote Research is actively seeking to fill an available Data Scientist position supporting the Space Force as a member of the Space Systems Command (SSC) Business Intelligence Group.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts from a diverse cross-section of SSC's business operations (personnel, finance, contracting, acquisition, logistics, etc.)
  • Translate business needs into technical requirements
  • Iterate with customers in an agile manner to ensure satisfaction
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines
  • Generate analyses and visualizations for ad hoc data requests
  • Build dashboards to provide insights for recurring analytics needs
  • Train and deploy models to forecast events (time series) or predict outcomes (machine learning)
  • Leverage Large Language Models (LLM) or other Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) capabilities to solve business problems
  • Salary range: $70,000 - $85,000/year, DOE


Skills Required


Must Have:
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience in analytical roles
  • Ability to work on-site in El Segundo a minimum of 2 days per week
  • Proficiency with data transformation in Python (Pandas and/or PySpark)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • An eye for effective data visualization and dashboard design

Nice to Have:
  • Active Secret clearance
  • Experience with Palantir Foundry analytics platform
  • Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint, SQL
  • A working knowledge of the AI landscape (supervised/unsupervised learning, reinforcement learning, deep learning, GenAI, prompt engineering, etc.)
  • Experience with the use of LLMs in a business setting
  • Familiarity with the government acquisition lifecycle
  • Advanced degree
  • Relevant professional certifications
  • Continuing education in Data Science/Analytics/Artificial Intelligence




Education

Bachelor's degree required, preferably in math, engineering, business, or the sciences.
