Fire Equipment Mechanic Journeyman
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Fire Equipment Mechanic Journeyman to join our team. This role is essential in maintaining and testing our firefighting apparatus and rescue equipment, ensuring all systems are fully operational and compliant with relevant standards.
Responsibilities:
• Perform repairs, testing, and scheduled maintenance on both Structural and Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) apparatus and rescue equipment.
• Conduct maintenance and testing on equipment including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), dive equipment, hydraulic rescue tools, ventilation fans and saws, rescue saws, fire hoses, ground ladders, and firefighter protective clothing.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for firefighting and rescue equipment.
• Conduct testing and certifications for ladders, hoses, nozzles, appliances, structural pumps, and ARFF pumps.
• Perform routine inspections and cleaning of protective clothing.
• Conduct annual SCBA mask fit testing, air pack maintenance, SCBA bottle testing, and maintenance of SCBA masks and regulators.
• Perform maintenance and repair on emergency vehicle apparatus systems, including pumps, discharge systems, electronic control systems, and all non-power train systems.
Additional Duties:
• Air testing and maintenance of air compressors.
• Testing and calibration of gas detectors.
• Maintenance of emergency water supply pumps.
• Inspection and maintenance of rescue tools and ventilation equipment.
• Conducting fire extinguisher maintenance and testing.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Emergency Vehicle Technician specializing in both Structural and ARFF apparatus and fire service equipment maintenance and testing.
• In-depth knowledge of NFPA 1911 and NFPA 414 standards.
• Familiarity with the DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program (DODI 6055.06-M) or equivalent industrial/municipal standards.
• Proven experience in developing preventative maintenance schedules for firefighting and rescue equipment.
• Ability to perform detailed maintenance, testing, and repairs on a wide range of firefighting and rescue equipment.
• Strong knowledge of SCBA maintenance, including mask fit testing and air pack maintenance.
Skills:
• Technical proficiency in the repair and maintenance of emergency vehicle apparatus systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members and supervisors.
