Power Plant Technician, I
Location: Chabelley, Djibouti

The Prime Power Plant Technician will support the provision of reliable power for critical facilities. The Technician will determine operational readiness of power production equipment and check installed equipment to ensure compliance with US DoD and Local Base policies. The Technician must have experience operating high- and low-voltage switches, circuit breakers and other controls. The Technician must interpret maintenance-malfunction data and be very capable using electrical wiring diagrams, troubleshooting and repairing defective power-generating components. The Technician will also advise on project work associated with electrical power-generating and control systems. The plant uses an AC current, 50 hertz frequency, 220/440 and 240/415 voltage British Standard commercial power grid.

Duties

• Install, operate, and maintain electrical power plants consisting of diesel prime power generator sets of 500 kW to 1600 kW and higher, mega-volt/amp substations, feeders, 3-phase circuits, associated auxiliary systems, equipment, and any other electrical distribution system mini-power-grid components.
• Work environment requires strict adherence to precautionary work methods and safety equipment due to the severe electrical hazards present when working near energized equipment and components.
• Monitors generating equipment, control/distribution systems, plant output and related components as necessary to ensure safe plant operation and effective power generation on an ongoing basis.
• Troubleshoots and repairs/replaces all generators, control/distribution components and fueling/support systems as necessary to restore and maintain continual power plant operation.
• Tests equipment to determine the cause of any malfunction or failure, using voltmeters, ammeters, and related electrical testing apparatus.
• Repairs and replaces equipment, such as relays, switches, load balancing/control systems, and indicating & recording instruments.
• Safely operates all tools & equipment required to access work locations and complete necessary repairs or upgrades.
• Completes all documentation and communicates effectively with team members and other personnel, as necessary.
• As directed by management, may supervise employees or subcontractor personnel in accordance with General Supervisory Duties and Responsibilities.
• Prime Power Technician must function under very harsh, working and living conditions. Assigned worksite locations are always subject to change.

Experience & Qualifications

• All Candidates for this opportunity must be Common Access Card (CAC) eligible and a US Citizen.


• High school or General Education Diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• US Military Prime Power Plant Specialist Training preferred.
• Five to eight years related Power Plant Technician, Base Camp Power and Backup Power Systems experience.
• Requires knowledge, skill level, and physical ability to perform all assigned job functions.
• Compliance with US Department of Defense Contract Safety, Health and Security requirements, means all employees must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at a level necessary to perform assigned Power Plant Technician functions.
• Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment.
• COVID-19 Vaccine verification required unless an approved exemption is permitted as a medical or religious accommodation, or other legally recognized exemption.
• Background checks are carried out as part of any conditional offer of employment, including position dependent education, professional registration, employment, references, passport verifications and Global Watchlist screening.
• Previous US Military Expeditionary Prime Power Generation Plant Technician, and/or US DoD Contingency Power Production Contractor work experience is preferred. Examples of preferred training: US Army Prime Power Production Specialist MOS 12P, US Air Force Electrical Power Production MOS 3E0X2, US Navy Mobile Utilities Support Equipment (MUSE) Technician MOS, US Army Corps of Engineers Prime Power School.
• Must be Common Access Card (CAC) eligible and a US Citizen.
