Overview

Staff Writer (NPAO):

Bowhead is seeking a Staff Writer for an upcoming effort located at the Navy Yard in Washington, DC. The Staff Writer will provide execution support for all enterprise-wide internal and external communications; this may include marketing requirements and legislative engagements; and other efforts as required.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement innovative communications strategies for organizational initiatives and programs.
  • Write and edit news copy and long-form writing (Feature articles, stories, et cetera) according to the Navy and Associated Press Style Book.
  • Strong demonstration of communication skills, both written and oral, including demonstrated ability to produce concise and properly edited
  • Ability to synthesize complex ideas and initiatives into easily understood communications for a variety of audiences.
  • Interact with a variety of audiences and convey information to a variety of audiences with varying levels of understanding of acquisition programs and priorities.
  • Ability to think strategically, to identify needs and requirements, and to develop recommendations and solutions.
  • Manage small and large-scale projects that contribute to a larger strategic communications plan.
  • Manage competing priorities under strict deadlines while maintaining a high level of attention to detail; ability to work effectively with senior leaders in a high profile and demanding office.


Bowhead seeks to network with qualified individuals relative to a potential opportunity, which is contingent upon award and not currently funded. Incumbent employees are encouraged to respond. No solicitations or third-party applications will be accepted.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts/Science degree in English or Communications.
  • Five years of civilian or military experience writing as depicted in applicant's portfolio/writing samples.
  • Well versed in using the AP Style guide
  • Strong demonstration of interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

Target salary is $110,000/year to $118,000/year commensurate with experience

Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
